Been quoted nearly £400 is that right ,thought it was about £250 for a 5 stage.
Can anyone update.
Only vet available but more than we thought and just keen to check

Its for vetting and bloods ,not including travel which is extra.
Struggling as not many in the catchment area but we thought expensive

Sounds more than I’d expect- it’s not to run the bloods as well as take them is it?

which region are you looking in? Maybe someone could advise on a vet for another quote for comparison?

I paid approximately £450 for a specialist orthopaedic vet at a referral hospital to do one 3 yrs ago not including radiographs. For a local practice I would expect in the region of £275. A full 5 stage incl a full set of radiographs your looking at circa £1000.

The good orthopaedic vets are generally at least £350 at the moment. Not including bloods and travel. You can get vetting cheaper if you go for a smaller practice / less experienced vet.

That does sound quite steep. My last vetting was just over 3 years ago and was in Kent, I think it was in the £200's, definitely less than £300.

Its North Lincolnshire and we've rung 7 vets prior.
Small independent vet but we couldn't find anyone else and don't want to buy without a vetting.
Weve paid but feel a bit uncomfortable about it.

I paid about £275 13/14 years ago - I'm surprised some of you can still get one for that now!

I think I paid £350 including bloods for Blue's vetting last year- it was on a zone day so no call out cost. So £400 doesn't seem that steep if it includes a call out fee...

This thread makes me feel better! Had a vetting a few weeks ago and didn’t ask the price beforehand. The vetting was stopped before final rest/trot up, bloods not taken - it was £270. Would’ve been £320 to complete then if bloods run later another lab charge so your not extortionately over average I think.

if you want a recommendation for the area then Tower Equine has my vote. They are based in Bourne but their attention to detail is second to none and I've had nothing but good experiences in the 15 years I have used them for my horses.

I’ve just been quoted £526.98 inc VAT for a five stage! Haven’t bought a horse for about 20 years so wasn’t sure if this was the going rate now...!

Looking at the threads on her regarding horses lameness issues, it is steep but could save you a fortune in the long run, to avoid buying other people’s problems!
