I was looking at our pricelist of our local hay/straw etc supplier... JJJJEEEEEZZZZ has hay gone up!!

How much do you guys pay for a regular sized bale of hay?

Our supplier is asking £3.90 A BALE!!!!!!!!!!!
shocked.gif
that is a 60p increase from last winter!!!

I have managed to find a supplier of big square bales of haylage .. the haylage lasts 2weeks and is £27 a bale... I would have been spending £46.80 on Hay in that time!!

(12 bale for 2 weeks)

Am I bring unrealistic about the hay price?

We pay £2.50 a bale. Thats straight from the farmer.
We used to pay that off the feild.
A local livery yard used to charge around £4 a bale, about the going rate I think, for people who re sell as opposed to suppliers.
Thought about shopping around a bit? Getting it direct from a farmer?

LOL, find a farmer who gets bigger grants!
Seriously, shop around!

[/ QUOTE ]Hun Daddy used to be a farmer so has every contact possible!! It's the going rate around this area... unless of course I want to pay extortionate delivery charges.

The yard owner made hay this year but it sh*t and full of docks and crap but he's still charging £3!!

Heyhey!!
KJJ, where on Earth do you get you're hay from.
We paid £3 for a bale, usually no more that £2.60 - the next batch will be back down to that.

To be perfectly honest, I expected it to be more than that this year as there has only been one cut around here. After the first cut the lack of rain meant it didn't grow until the few weeks but it's too late/wet to cut now
