I’m in the camp that it’s just a vessel. I take the collar and lead back, as it’s something my grandparents did and we’ve always just done it too. That holds more memories to me than anything else.

I’ve still got my first lurchers lead which I use for one of my terriers. I dropped it while on a walk, easy to do as I’ve 3 dogs so 3 leads, I retraced my steps 3 times over 2 days and couldn’t find it. I couldn’t believe how upset I was. My friend put a post on our local Facebook page and someone had found it and posted a photo of it hanging on a gate. I was really happy to get it back…. .I’m much more careful now as I don’t want to go through that again

My comment as to enquiring about cost being a bit awkward has been confirmed! People do judge that question.
Thats why I’ve never asked it myself, I fear that someone may think I’m more worried about cash than the animal. This is a non judgy (normally!) was of a quick bit of info. Thanks all.
Im not sure what’s going on right now as we have been a bit out of the loop with OH family stuff. I think my dad was making an appointment this week, hopefully with my vet who’s wonderful.

I should think in the current climate there will be more than a few people ringing round to find the cheapest pts/vaccs/worming etc that they can find. The difference between the most and least expensive could probably feed a dog for a week (or even a month). I hadn't noticed any judgey (about ringing round) posts on the thread.

No. The replies I’ve had are useful and I Know know what vets do after the process which as I say I’ve never even Considered before.
There is one reply, Bonny, that mentions putting cost before the dog.

Yeah I can’t see that myself. I like to think most vets would be like my own and actually like the pets they deal with.
I think most of us who work with animals do so because we respect and love them.

My MIL has 4 little brown wooden boxes sitting on her shelf in her 'snug' she refused to deal with them when she moved house and brought them with her. Currently dog number 5 is elderly and most likely will go before she does. I am grateful my step FIL was buried!
