dont kid your self that bsja is cheaper most british novices are now £15!!!! and going up as the classes get higher but the weird thing is i havent noticed the prize money going up to match!!!!!;)

I bet there's not much in it price comparison wise...............which is indeed strange with the amount of extra bodies needed for eventing(judges/stewards etc)

Also to put things in perspective, though, have a look at the US fees: http://useventing.com/competitions.php?section=calendar Nothing under $150 per division (which would not include incidental fees) and lots at $200!! The Canadian calendar isn't out yet but I'd expect similar fees and for most people they'd be lucky to have more than one or two events within a two hour drive if they're in a well populated area.

Doesn't ease the pain for here, I know, but it could be a lot worse!

Australian eventing prices are no better and we don't even have the option of unaffiliated as it doesn't exist unless you join the PC. That and you are very lucky if you have an event that is less than 2hrs away. My closest event is 1hr 15min.

Entries start (for Intro -80cm) at $95 entry fee (including GST) + $10 ground fee + $20 day membership/insurance if you aren't a member of the EFA.
Total: $125 AUD = £70 GBP
And that doesnt include petrol, yard rental for staying over night (all events run over 2 days), accomodation for you if you aren't willing to camp (which as we event over winter isnt always a 'comfortable' option).

Class entry prices go up by about $10 a class/level.
Year membership of the EFA (Equest. Fed of Aus) is about $120 a year so you need to go to at least 6 events or compete above Pre-Nov to make it worth while.

*lalalala*

The answer is simple, don't tot it up, ignorance is bliss! Then feign utter confusion when berated by family for being utterly skint!

Seriously, I worked it out at being about 2k all in for what I want to do next season. I feel sick!

This is exactly my theory on it- never add up all the sums!

It's so scary if you sit down and add up training/equipment/entries etc... best not to.

I have started my 2010 Event Calander (I am also a geek!

) but need to figure out what events we are going to aim for. Can't wait to get back out eventing.

(and for equivalent money, at the lowly height of intro anyway, it beats a night out in town any day!)

Yep, I will never ever add up the cost of doing BSJA and BE!

Have to say though that Im so jealous of you having so many events so nearby!! My closest is 30 mins away, the next is 1 hr 20 mins, then all others are over 2 hours away.

I'm 16 and I am joining for the 1st time this year. My mum has already said that she is not going to pay for ANY of it, so i have to find £200+ to join me and my pony, then get a job to fund the £50-70 entry fees as I am hoping to do a few novices this year. WHY do the prices has to be so high when I want to join

Not fair!!
