Could a dressage saddle

I dont think so, I have a friend who tips forward terribly and she rides in a dressage saddle, I find I ride the same whatever type of saddle I am in.

Have you had a good fitter look at your saddle? It might not suit you full stop, it might not fit the horse properly - if it is out of balance from front to back the seat isn't level and it will either tip you forwards or it is actually trying to tip you back and you are compensating by leaning forwards.

But there are lots of other rider position issues that can cause you to tip forwards. If you post good clear photos of you riding =people might be able to help - I could comment on the saddle (I'm a fitter).

I think its partly my build.I am shorter in the leg and longer in the body and I walk leaning forward a bit as well.I also ride a horse that can need a bit of motivating and the temptation to lean to urge on, especially in canter is always there.Yes I do know thats wrong and my instructor and I are working quite hard at the SITTING UP business.

Its hard to explain but try sitting with your seatbone tucked underneath you and lower your back, best way to check is if you put your hand in the small of your back and your bum is sticking out your not sitting correctly, it should feel flat from your back to your bum, this in turn will but your thigh in a better position and help you sit up, really push your shoulders back will also help, it takes a while to adjust but its a much better, I find most people who lean forward are not sitting on the correct part of there underneath, if you are its very hard to tilt your body forward.

I think the key is the forwards aids - I often have saddle fitting customers put the legs over the front of the flaps, knees up, and walk their seatbones forwards until they feel they're in the deepest part of the seat, THEN drop their legs back and down. It's something I struggle with as a rider. You then must have the horse GO from your leg/whip otherwise your position will suffer - I see customers both leaning back and leaning forwards because of the horse not being off the aids.

I do try and get him off the aids and we are improving. It is definately better when I sit up and remeber to do that.He is a steady eddie which is lovely as he has restored my confidence a lot.Like many steady eddies though he can be difficult to motivate.
