that would be good actually, my horse is under investigation for not using his back end properly and is really weak on his lumbar area, i took photos today so want to compare him to others.
thanks guys, i basically am comparing princes muscle to horses with correct muscle. i put the photos in paint and drew a straight line from the point of buttock upwards and the top of the quarters across, so i can take a photo weekly and draw the same line and see if he has muscled any more. il put a couple of examples up to show what i mean, please say if you think its utterly pointless it seemed like a brain wave at the time!!
right this is my horse, i want to see how much muscle he gains in the next six weeks over his back mainly lumbar area, if he doesnt improve in six weeks hes going on for x-rays so im hoping this is the best way to tell.
took this today after he was lunged in the pessoa
Many of the photos submitted looked far worse than your horse.....the best was the dressage animal and the pocket rocket hunter. You need to supply more info - age of horse, and what you intend to do with him? I have 2 pointers ready to run (one is out tomorrow - gulp!) they look well muscled - front and back - road work, galloping and racing nuts have got them to that point - I don't tend to use gadgets on them - steep hills, asking them to drop thir heads and work through from behind works a treat.
he does abit of everything, mainly competed dressage last year affiliated level just starting novice this year, hes 11 years old. had a few comments from judges saying hes looking irregular behind, had the vet out who confirmed he isnt using his hind end correctly and thinks its muscular so have started pessoa lunging and physio is coming out monday and saddler friday. he is weak and sore over lumbar and pelvic area, if he doesnt muscle up and improve in six weeks he is going in for x-rays of his spine to check for KS and his pelvis, hocks and fetlocks. he is working long and low in the pessoa and will be doing this in ridden work also when saddle is checked.
I would use a chambon rather than a pessoa for long and low - i tend to find the pessoa gives them nowhere to go in front. Its very good for getting them to work their behind. I used one on a pony with SI issues, every day for 8 weeks pretty much. It made a huge difference. best to get someone to show you how to use it properly if unsure, and obviously the horse needs to be able to lunge properly in any case. Good luck with him.
i have a chambon, i found it forced him into a long and low rather that him doing it himself. he is very crafty and will do anything not to use his back end, was thinking of mixing it in with a pessoa though and use a different one each day.
