Could it get worse???

I have always fancied a standard poodle a friend always had one and they where great dogs .

My last dog was a standard poodle, thought I'd treat myself as always admired them but always had rescues. He was the most difficult dog I've ever had anything to do with as there was not a hint, ever, of any willingness to please combined with incredible intelligence. I think he only accepted me as boss because I had opposable thumbs. I believe they were tried as police dogs but didn't succeed because they are so wilful but I suspect the bitches are easier.

The first time I came across a contract was with Dram .
I bought in the full knowledge that I had no intention of ever returning the dog the breeder if say MrGS had died and I was terminally ill .
I am perfectly capable of finding a friend my dogs know to take them if something appalling happened .

I've occasionally met Beata, and Blomma's brother Boris that I sold as a puppy 12½ years ago. Regardless if it has gone years, or months between we last met, as soon as he sees me, he becomes happy, wants to say Hello, and almost tries to crawl up in my knee even if I'm standing up.

Although at his age, I presume there is bigger risk something happens to Boris than his owners, but if something did happened so his owners couldn't keep him, I hope they would at least consider contacting me.
But I know that legally, even though there is a first refusal clause in his contract, if he needs to be rehomed the decision is entirely up to his current owners.

I've found the 'return to breeder' requests quite reassuring, and this has been explicitly referenced by the breeders of both of my current GSD boys (albeit there was no contract as such). Not because I want to return mine (ever) but because they were both clearly responsible enough to care about the puppies they had bred, and could rehome easily as there were always people interested because the dogs were quality animals. When we got my youngest boy, a juvenile from a previous litter was staying with the breeder whilst his owner was moving house as she had to rent for a month and couldn't have him with her. He also took one back from another litter and quickly secured him a new home when it didn't work out with the owner.

On-topic - I wouldn't even have a GSD Poodle... German Shepoodle?

I had a toy poodle in my youth. Literally came home one day and mum had went by herself and bought this tiny little purebred poodle (mums not really animally at all but for some reason dogs adore her and just become like a third leg)

he was one of the best dogs ever he was bundles of fun did every trick with no training required and ran the yard with no fear. We went through a bad time with my sisters health so he went to stay with my “nana” for a bit and refused to come home. I don’t think there has ever been a dog more adored by anyone than little sooty and nana, they became infamous locally. When he died she never could bring herself to get another dog, said it was worse than loosing her husband.

We see all sorts of weird crosses at work. We decided to breed curly coated pit bulls and give them a silly name. Pittydoodles was one of the names. And then other breeds were discussed for the mix.
I love poodles and may very be my next breed given my age and sudden health concerns. Right now lifting a GSD is totally beyond me. Lifting the the 15kg bag of dog food wore me out.:(

i thought might breed from mine to make a quick buck - a whippet and a cocker spaniel......

Anyone fancy a 'Whippycock !!!!!???

Noooo, surely that is a Cockwhip?

Went to buy a horse once and was presented with a Shitpoo. A friend actually bought one!

Coming up with/Telling us about a name like Pittydoodles definitely sounds worth a Like, but didn't want to Like your recent health problems/concerns.

Thanks FinnishLapphund. The crosses and names got quite silly.

I found two people who are going to run Rudy in agility class and trials if they get on. That makes me very happy.

When you all mention registered breeders that mean that they've been checked by the kennel club or the government and have a stamp of approval? Here it means they're USDA registered and that means commercial breeder, often puppy mills.
I didn't know that; I just found out. Thank you.

Lots of GSD people over here seem to go for Swedish Vallhunds when it’s time to downsize…

Zombie thread but...
Scrolling down the page, I couldn't help but notice that under "Breed Lifespan:
The life expectancy of a healthy and well cared for Newfypoo dog is around 18-12 years."

Personally, I find it a bit odd to start with the higher age, and go downwards, but perhaps that has to do with me being Swedish?

Typo, I can't see that even a giant breed cross would make 18 years, I'd say it's 8-12 years.

Is that a poodle x poodle? ☺️

I presumed Poodle x Poodle would = Poodle. Tried googling, but the closest I found was Pomapoo = Pomeranian x Poodle, which I suppose also could be called a Popoo dog. But that still isn't Poopoo, so I'm out of ideas.

By the way, I know they're spelled differently, but isn't Chipoo = Chihuahua x Poodle, and Shihpoo = Shih Tzu x Poodle, pronounced the exact same way?

Ohh ha! I thought it was just a joke ?‍♀️ I have no idea what a poo poo might be otherwise ?

Years ago I had a english pointer x Irish setter. His parents met at crufts so was a stunning dog, and even won the championship at our local dog show and the only crossbreed to ever win it (some KC people tried to complain!!!!!)

In this day and age I assume he would be known as a 'poinsetta'?!!!!! if anyone wants to breed any let me know as would love to have another....bet they would go for a good price too.

Still looking for a small, old dog for my dad when I came upon a litter of "collypoos" advertised - yep!! Border Collie cross poodle, these are advertised as future show winners too at 2k a pop.... now they won't be high energy or hard work will they?? I thought the cockerpoos around here are nervous and neurotic but these are going to be something else!! Or if you fancy something more sedate why not try a "Newfiepoo".....FFS
Just go to the dogs home. Much more satisfying than lining someone's pockets with a stupid sounding named made up breed.

I tried the dogs homes and couldn’t get anywhere as I already had one dog and most of the conditions say must be only pet..I gave up after about 3 months. My friend who is also retired was told she was too old to adopt a dog, she is an active 73 yr old who walks her dogs twice a day and they are very rarely left at home, she also takes them on holiday with her so I can’t understand why the rescue said she was too old.

I am pretty sure a small tap and a stern voice wouldn't get through to him and keep me safe on those occasions.

I don't know how those rescues think that their dogs are going to find good homes. Some of the rescues are like that in the US and I just don't get it. I've had to work and yet my dogs got plenty of exercise and training.

And the friend who is retired, WTF?? Don't they have a young adult that could fit into her household? Sometimes I think some of these places don't want the dogs to have good homes.

I'm not sure show that picture of the bite was attached. I tried to cancel the post after I couldn't edit out the picture. Sorry.
