Today the horse was visited by WHW and a very kind lady from Trading Standards Welfare Dept who kindly got in touch to help.

WHW left a welfare notice on the gate of the field advising ad lib hay and a vet check for the horse in question, asking the owner to contact them. There were also feed buckets by gate that have had chaff and ? Mix or some sort of straight in them.

The lady from Trading Standards has been in contact also said that the owner has now been located and that they have spoken to her, the horse is under veterinary care and the relevant organisations are going to work closely with her and will follow this through. This is being taken very seriously.

I am very thankful for all the kind words that have been said on this thread. I promised an update so here it is. Myself along with more than a few others will be keeping an eye on this boy, and are hoping to see improvements.

Fabulous....and the only thing that really mattered about this thread. Well done to you and your friend. X

That's great news! Thanks for updating us :)

Nope from what I understand the OP called WHW and TS not the RSPCA

OP's post says that TS found that the horse is already under vet care, and the authorities are going to continue to monitor.

That will probably be why, as suggested earlier in the thread, that the inspector told the OP or OP's friend that they did not feel they needed to act further.

The RSPCA was called first. They informed the friend that they were happy...that might well have been because they had contacted the owner and started the ball rolling.

No point in assuming otherwise.

Main thing is, the horse is under veterinary care and on the radar now :-)

OMG!! There is no way an old horse should look like that no matter how old. If it has a belly it will be riddled with worms. Did you see the program on tv last night, the man on there had loads of horses taken off him and prosecuted and his horses looked amazing in comparison!

OP says the lady from TS got in touch. Who told her and how had she already located the owner before she and WHW had even seen the horse ? Why were there suddenly buckets of feed by the gate, and why was the horse already under vet care ?
That sounds like the RSPCA had already started to take action.
WHW and the RSPCA often work together on cases, (as they did when they saved my horse and imprisioned his former owner.)

Nope WHW and TS are working together, the RSPCA deemed there was nothing wrong with the horse, this is fact and not taken from this thread.

Don't give two shits who did what, just glad the poor horse is now getting the care it was lacking.

Can those more concerned about point scoring beggar off?

Well done OP & friend. :)

So the OP was right, and RSPCA employee, did in fact, know absolutely B all about horse welfare :( What a sad state of afairs. Glad WHW and the LA are doing something. I must admit to being a bit  at those trying to claim this as an RSPCA 'victory', with no backing to their assertions, a tad pathetic in my view.

Isn't it funny how those who did give two ****s that the RSPCA 'obviously' had done nothing, and are useless etc etc all of a sudden don't give two ****s who did what?!

Also, just to point out, that it's also quite possible that on enquiry, all the officers involved have found out that the horse was ALREADY on treatment before the officers got there. It doesn't necessarily mean that just because the officers have been, that they have instructed the owner to get a vet, it may have already been under one, ie it may have developed Cushings and had a fairly rapid deterioration and the owner then got treatment.

Only the owner, vet, RSPCA, WHW and TS know that at this point.

Not point scoring, fact (from this thread) highlighting. RSPCA went initially, then TS and whw attended and find horse with food and under vet care, whether it was under care all along or under care since RSPCA attendance no one knows. Point is horse is OK, and 3 organisations have attended and found everything in hand........????

Of course...

If you know this 'fact' then how come you didn't know any of the other 'facts' about this situation?

Nothing like making assumption to suit you own twisted view.............sad VERY sad.

Not assuming anything, I am saying IT IS POSSIBLE, because you are still making out that it is without a shadow of a doubt a neglect case. As I said plenty of times before, it may well have been, which is now being sorted. I just hate it when people don't look at all the different possibilities and think outside the box a bit before accusing.

Omg!!! OK we all feel very strongly protective about our beloved horses, which sometimes gets us hot under the collar. If nothing else, this thread should point out that a photo, does not tell the whole story and that assumptions should not be made without the full story. The op did right to highlight this to the organisations to ensure it was getting the right attention and care.

I think that seeing as the thread was originally an RSPCA bashing thread,(the clue is in the title) it is quite relevant that the latest update indicates that they had not been doing nothing.

Hoping things continue to improve for the horse and the owner has been educated or helped to ensure things don't slip backwards.

I don't like RSPCA bashing at every opportunity, but sometimes they get it wrong. Obviously if the horse WAS being fed, the OP would have seen hay, feed, and feed buckets etc in the field before, and not become alarmed and reported it. It seems the hay and feed has only appeared SINCE the horse was reported. I am still  at how anyone could argue that the angle of the OP's photograph did not allow them to determine whether the horse was actually badly underweight.

Well done OP. A positive outcome. :)

The lady from TS is a friend of a friend on a local facebook group we were discussing this on. The RSPCA did not call her.
