Does anyone know any yards that offer this? Or that have offered it?

Due to severe storm damage we have to rebuild some buildings and a livery yard is one diversification idea. I am just thinking of ways to make it appealing/different/profitable.

Any thoughts from mums with horses? Would you use such a service and what would you pay?

I would spend so much money on this if it was available! I use a gym and pay £5;50 an hour so I guess it would be much the same for anywhere else?

The trouble is that there is so much red tape involved in a project like that. It might be possible for you to provide a room for parents to take their children and for them to 'share the care' but anything else would need to be OFSTED registered. Do check the 'provide a room' option carefully too, even that might be subject to regulation.

Speaking if I was at the yard - no I would not be in favour of it as my horses are my down time so would not want children screaming etc, but it depends if that is the type of livery you want, all mums with kids, but guess some would like the yard without children and these people would not like it.

I would expect that the kids that use the crèche would be away from the yard though? I have to say from experience if its not - there does seem to be a lot of people that don't like to hear/see/smell kids anywhere near their horses or have them interfere in any way in their horse time so you would clean up in one area and maybe lose out in another.
Speaking as someone with a child I would pay more than anywhere else if a yard offered this as an extra service. Also if I didn't have a child the fact it had a crèche wouldn't put me off either x

Don't have kids myself but I think that's a great idea OP as long as costs were reasonable. But not sure how profitable it would be regarding time... licence ect ect

As a child free livery, I would welcome crèche facilities if it meant that the children of my fellow liveries were cared for away from the yard, leaving their parents free to tend to their horses in peace (and peace for me). It can’t be much fun to have to keep an eye on small children all the time while trying to look after and ride your horse. So, if there was somewhere safe on the yard where they could be dropped off and entertained, away from the horse area, that would be a win for everyone on the yard in my opinion.

I think it would work, IF it passed the red tape side of things. It would certainly be an advantage as a mum, that a yard could offer this.

I would have thought that there could be issues of the children reaching an age where the creche was only used during school holidays and maybe weekends, without the "through put" that would keep the creche going.

How funny to come across this thread - I was thinking about it earlier.... i think there's a market too going by a recent thread where there were a lot of liveries hating the idea of kids running around unsupervised! Plus I googled it and there's already a few making a success of it :)

You'd have to have it in a very horsey area to make sure you had enough clientele... to make it pay and yes, I would pay and I would be there like a shot. I pay for after school club (mixed ages) a couple of times a week now so I can squeeze in a ride at £11 per afternoon (3.30pm - 6pm) and they pick up from school too!

It's a great idea, and yes, regulations need to be met even for a creche but there will be people willing to pay to have someone there looking after LO while they have horsey time.

You will have people on HHO hating the idea for sure :D but that's completely irrelevant as they won't be the ones using your facility - hopefully avoiding it at all costs! :D

yes I know of a yard that offers this. they converted an old barn into a children's pre school nursery. its run as a separate business with its own staff . its open to all so people using the livery yard do not have priority its up to them to get their childs name down early for a place.
its a really good idea. the children do not have access to the yard its all on one old farm which no longer is a farm just horses and the nursery business.
