My mum was walking the dogs the other day in the same place we always do. On the river bank all the dogs (3 terriers and GSP) were obsessing about something in a bush and then Willow the border terrier started making her awful "red mist" noise.
Mum couldn't get in bush to get her out and couldn't understand what it could be, then eventually the badger ran out, Willow attached! Mum managed to get hold of her tail so she had to let go and the Badger got away, hopefully he/she is ok. Non of the others were interested in tackling it! Willow had a lot of blood on her and was colarless, he has some superficial wounds on her neck and wasn't lame at the time but the day after had a poorly paw... She's been to the vets and got some anti biotics etc. so hopefully she'll be ok too.
A couple of question:
1 - since when do badgers hang out on river banks in the middle of the day??
2 - does anyone else have a mega keen terrier like this and is there anyway to curb their killer instinct? She's great with other dogs and people but is just a crazy small and large furry animal muncher!!
