Cross Country Tape - Kind of market research....

So for a while I've been thinking about setting up a (tiny) business selling different XC tapes - mainly because it took me an absolute age to find teal coloured tape and even then I had to pay a fortune in p & p to get it. So my question to you is, how fussed are you about using tape XC and then how much do you care about the colour? I can get things like camouflage coloured tape/star patterns etc which I think is awesome but would obviously be more expensive than the usual PVC stuff and have no idea if people (other than me ;) ) would actually buy 'premium' boot tape.

All thoughts appreciated!

Not your target market as no longer eventing but when I was, there's no way I'd have coughed up I'm afraid :o 99p tape all the way chez Millie :lol:

However, the matchy thing has somewhat skyrocketted since I last rode xc so I might be in the minority now :p

I'm not sure you are, hence despite pondering on it for a while I haven't actually bothered to do anything about it :p
 
I would think there would be an unaffiliated market - teenagers really like the colour stuff as far as I can tell. I guess it depends how much more it would be, and how much p&p you'd need to charge. I might pay more for nice stuff if it suited our theme, but not huge amounts more either.

I don't event, but I do use tape sometimes so that's the extent of my infringement on the target market :p
 
After searching high and low for specific colours I have usually ended up settling with black or buying boots with straps the colour I wanted! I would definitely be interested and know a few others that would be as well.

Out of interest what sort of colours are you struggling for and what sort of price range would you be happy to pay per roll.
 
Don't use it any more since the invention of velcro. Used to tape bandages. There are loads of electrical tape colours already and am sure I saw someone advertising coloured XC tape on TE last year. Sorry not sure it would be a money spinner.

I was looking for turquoise and Coral, the rolls tend to last me a while so would be happy to happy to pay a fair amount. Especially for the patterned ones you mentioned. For a black roll I paid £1 so would be happy to pay up to £5 excluding P&P although would probably pay more if I saw it at an event such as BE or a big show like HOYS as I'm an impulse buyer :P
 
As a kid i searched everywhere for pink tape, before you could just buy it at a saddlery, i eventually found this company;

so i bulk bough a tonne of them for the yard (everyone wore pink XC)

It doesn't bother me so much anymore, i had one roll of pink left over that i was using up a few years ago a little girl in the collecting ring thought it was brilliant, i bumped into her later at the burger van and she asked me where i got it, funnily enough i still had the roll in my coat pocket so i gave it to her, she was so chuffed!

I XC in blue now so whilst i match my tape, Blue is easy to come across and fairly cheap too.

I might consider paying more if i had odd colours, but not a huge amount, maybe a fiver?
