I've never been xc, and the thought of having a go has always terrified me.
But now my horse has improved my confidence lots I'm considering giving it a go.
So what courses in West Yorkshire have small, easy jumps that I can have a go at. (Preferably somewhere with water you can go in (without jumping in))

I'm looking at Hopton xc course or Manor Farm at Howden. Neither website has jump heights written down though :/

Hi!
I don't know whereabouts you are in West Yorkshire but a trip to the Craven Country ride at Coniston just outside Skipton would be really worthwhile. All of the jumps are optional and the fences range from tiny logs to much bigger and there are 2 water jumps to have a play in and the ground is always fantastic. There are also some Trec obstacles to play with. They also have a lovely warm tea room with an Aga and home made biscuits. Need I say more?!

Yep I'd second that...also Crowood (burnley) also when I'm driving to work theres one in Halifax/Greetland cant think of the name will try and google it...got summat to do with chasers!!

Turbury equine cross country...they have a site!

I wouldn't bother with this, I live up the road... it's basically a few logs in a field and not particularly cheap. I think they're planning to add to and improve it but at the moment it's not worth paying to ride round it.

Hopton is ok for a local trip, but mine is another vote for Craven.

Hopton Horse is ok, Craven is nice for a ride round and has a few nice little fences. There is a place in east keswick (nr leeds) that is also available for hire but I don't think they have water. Northallerton used to be quite good but obviously that's not w yorks but depending where in w yorks you are it's not too far.

I am not sure if Epworth equestrian nr doncaster hire out their course but if so that's quite nice too!

Yeah, i've decided to hire a lorry (pauper so don't have own transport) with another person on my yard and take the pair of them up to Escrick Park as West Yorkshire is just not doing much for me. Or GG Centre. Not sure which one yet. They are up York way but they are a proper set up and both have excellent websites too :-)

Oooh, i'm in West Yorkshire too - between Leeds and Bradford. Or at least, that's where the horse is!

Definitely go to Craven, its fabulous!! They have themed ride days, the next one will probably be August Bank Holiday though you can go in between times. The trail days provide you with a drink and a snack half way around and then a light meal with a drink afterwards. They have wash facilities for your horse and if your family go its nice to have a picnic. Lovely place and really nice scenery. The land is looked after too and the ride itself is very enjoyable.

ditto this about turbury its rubbish IMHO. i went to the 'open day' for this which cost me £10 to get in to look at a few crappy logs...i was very peed off to say the least (bear in mind its about £15 to get in somewhere like Bramham!)
i would definitely recommend Craven. the guy who runs it is very helpful and friendly and there should be lots of jumps for you to play over. they have a water splash and a proper water complex. definitely worth the drive. epworth also looks good. have never been but planning on going- they do hire the course according to the website :)

can highly recommend Manor Farm Howden have a full range of fences from about 60cm upto 1.10ish all of which ar optional and a fabulous water which you can just walk into, jump in and out of. Courses for horses at Stamford Bridge is also very good but think Howden has more variety of smaller fences .Wherever you choose Enjoy:D:D
