I bought a horse at the end of last summer that I thought had unknown breeding. Just had another look at her passport and it seems that she is by Crossdrum spurs! :D

Does anyone have a horse by him? What are their temperaments like? What do you do with yours/what do they excel at?

Would love to see piccys if you have any!

This is my mare (Out of Silver Flagstaff)

I don't have any by him, but I do know him; he lives about six miles away from us. Yours looks typical of his get; do you know what the dam is? By reputation his offspring are athletic, good jumpers and straightforward to train. I havn't heard anything negative about them other than some are on the small side - the stallion is about 16h.

That's interesting thanks :) She's out of Silver Flagstaff (can't seem to find any info on her).

No problem with height of mine, she's about 17hh :p :D

I don't know any by him, but saw a few of his offspring for sale when I was looking last year. They all looked really nice sorts - your mare is gorgeous 3Beasties.

Hasn't he been gelded now? Think I remember reading it somewhere?

Not as of last week, which is when I last saw him!

Thanks you, she is rather pretty but I am more then a little bias :p :o

I think it's one of his offspring, Drumcross Spurs that has now been gelding.

Just purely going by the name (and presuming the passport is Irish?), she could possibly be from the Flagmount line? Which goes back to King of Diamonds. But that's all just speculation, a dangerous pursuit!

She's got an Irish passport, I'll do some investigating!

How interesting ! My gelding is by Crossdrum Spurs and I have had him 4 years this year. He is 15.3hh and is lovely. Has a super nature, very friendly and affectionate. From what I know of his history, he was bred in Ireland and then came over here as a youngster to a show producer. He didnt make the grade, and she passed him on to the girl I bought him from. She runs a company providing horses to the film and TV industry so he used to do jousting at Warwick Castle and was also in Stardust the film. Whilst she had him he broke down quite badly and it was then discovered he had arthritis. So he was sold to me as a happy hacker but sadly his arthritis has really deteriorated so he is retired from riding now. He was a bit quirky to ride - you had to be very confident and firm with him or he would take the mickey quite a lot, but he is just gorgeous a real character and very kind and affectionate. I have never known him to bite or kick or even put his ears back. I am not great at putting pics on here but will try as I have some lovely ones of him. His registered name is Thornfield Millhouse or Cossack, but everyone calls him Cossie for short.

Right okay, hope I have downloaded the pics properly and this works, but this is from when I first got him. He is my first horse and I waited 30+ years to get him so was chuffed to bits.

Another one of him from that same year

Oh forgot to add before as well that he is an incredibly good doer and we are watching his waistline constantly much to his disgust !

Caramac - Your boy looks lovely, he's got a similar stripe down his bum :D How old is he now?

Sheep - Would love to see piccys of your boyfriends mare :)

Thank you, he is 12 now. I think he looks a lot like his dad. He even has a little dot on each of his sides like his dad. I sent them a couple of pictures of him a couple of years ago and they were really interested to see them

Hi there
I have a few by Crossdrum Spurs that I bred myself from different mares. I am currently hunting the very first one, and I must say he is spectacular, having trouble uploading photos but you can see lots of him in action on my facebook page, just look for "Arlene Ryan". In the mean time I will keep trying to post some photos. Spurs stands with James Coote in Oldcastle co Meath he is alive and well although he has stopped covering mares since last year. He produces some outstanding stock who have excelled in nearly every sphere, especially showing and jumping. Your mare looks lovely, I`m sure you will have years of enjoyment out of her.

My friend had Drumcross Spurs as a stallion (sired by Crossdrum Spurs) and he was lovely - now gelded as stated previously. I have a rising 4 yr old by him so Crossdrum Spurs is her Grandpa and she is lovely and proving to be very very smart, very very bold and just a bit too confident, however, we are getting there. I love this sires progeny and the lines he has produced.

Hi, this is a really late reply to all of this discussion but i have recently bought Drumcross Spurs & he is still a gentleman! He is 12 in a few days:) Gorvie I saw that you knew someone who owned him and i was wondering if you knew what she/he did with Drum as I don't know that much about what he has done.

Hi Maddie99h

Great to hear from you and yes, I know Drumcross Spurs aka Drum really well and have a 5 year old youngster by him. If you would like to know more please email me on gilliangorvel@cwgsy.net. He used to stand a Great Brockhamhurst Stud in Surrey. I have loads of photos of him if you would like to see them. Just get in touch. Regards, Gillian.

Hi everyone I have a 15.3 just turned 5 year old stallion with him, amazing nature and just generally a sweetheart. 💞 does anyone have anymore pictures and videos of crossdrum spurs? I can only find one picture of him 😔💖
