Crufts 2025

We’ve worked out that we can’t enter the gamekeepers classes as T is a hobby keeper, not employed as one- but have hopefully pulled together a regional working team of just GLPs. Erik will also go in the BASC HPR dog class too. Fingers crossed for minimal class clashes, if push comes to shove I think I’d rather forego my breed class for the BASC team, as at least the breed will be seen by more people- and those who are more interested in working dogs too

Perhaps send Kate at BASC an email and ask for clarification. I'm sure other part time Keepers enter.

I’ve always wanted to go.

So if I can manage it what’s the best day/days? I’d like to see terriers/hounds and agility. It open to anything else.

Terriers and hounds are on Thursday this year (although you can see all breeds every day at Discover Dogs). Thursday also has large and intermediate champ and novice cup so a good agility day. The best solely agility day is arguably Friday IMO as it's the Crufts singles (all heights) plus medium ABC and intermediate/large novice ABC.

Thanks!! Might see if I can do Thursday/Friday.
Of course oh might have something to say but stuff it! 🤣

No clue on the agility but Thurday is terrier and hound day and not to be bias but I happen to know a whippet who is giving out free cuddles with her charity on Thursday 😉

Crufts entry done, bank account £85 lighter. Once parking has been booked and one night in kennels for Meera who isn’t going total will be around £120.

Are they actually charging for it??

In person ringcraft is much more useful! And if you've any questions we are all happy to help I'm sure.
Yep it's £30 and I'm a tight wad at the best of times 🤣

Yeah that's what I thought, I will see how tonight goes and probably be back with questions! Tbh I probably just need to practice

That's a bit cheeky really when she's only shown the lab once at Crufts. She did show Dallies previously I believe.

Oosh that’s fairly punchy! I’m paying the same for a breed specific 3hr hands on, in person masterclass in Feb!

I'm paying less for a small group handling session with a world renowned handler next week!! In person, with coffee and cake provided...

Ring craft was ok tonight, it's more of a practice night rather than proper training if that makes sense. Rafi was a good boy tho and thinks it's great (he thinks most things are great). It's only £2 so cant grumble.

His moving is getting better he's less nosy at dogs sat round the edge and not jumping up at me now. He will stand and that's getting better think I just need to practice really.

Few questions, do I need to trim his tail and chest hair? Photo of chest hair

Where are you based? Send me a PM if you prefer and will see if we can find you anything suitable.

Yes, I would groom him - is there any groomers nearby who do show dogs? If you aren't sure ask around at Ringcraft for recommendations

If you post a side on stacked photo it will be easier to advise you on the amount of trimming you need to do. Trimming should always be done on clean hair so best after a bath and dry.

Hope you don’t mind me coming onto this thread. I’m planning on visiting this year as a spectator, mostly to watch the showing and the heelwork to music.

Now I know pretty much nothing about dog showing, but I’d like to learn and I get bored if I can’t analyse what I’m watching to the nth degree. I’m going to be studying up on the relevant breed standards before Crufts, but, those of you who are experienced with/enjoy showing, what else do you tend to look at in terms of ringcraft, dog behaviour, what the judge does, etc?

And is the Good Citizen Dog Training scheme ring worth visiting - does it just talk people through the exam criteria or are the demos actually useful for training tips?

Judging should solely be about selecting the dog closest to the breed standard and therefore to improve the breed/bring it closer to perfection. However just as with horses ringcraft, presentation and handling can change a dog. Grooming can hide a multitude of faults and sins.

Take my old Springer. His elbows are little loose (although perfect elbow scores), when presenting him stacked side on putting a little pressure on his head as you hold it to push him gently away from you over that elbow makes the elbow appear a tight, neat fit. From the front he is straight.
