Crufts 2026 roll call

Here are Stirlings best mates . Mother and son . Both look nothing like the crufts winner . Both have serious stamina . I’ve posted a side on shot of one to show how lean he his . This dog runs like Mo farrar .
Also .. my show lab keeps up with them no problem . He’s not as fast , but always keeps up .

That’s a cracking photo Druid.

I am pondering how one would go about assessing fitness for purpose in a utility breed whose original function doesn’t really exist any more. A day standing on a narrowboat shouting at things would be his idea of heaven.
Releasing a motorised toy rat into the terrier ring would be amusing

Well I had a lovely time, although woke up this morning full of cough and cold, as is traditional.
Me too. 3 days there and now have strep throat and antibiotics! We went to watch the agility with my friend competing in YKC. Usual abundance of Devongems in the main arena 🙄. Spent too much but it was all obviously essential 🤣

I wonder if all breeds should be asked to attain an endurance test, say, 20km steady trotting beside a bike within a certain time frame or something? Before qualifying to progress to the big ring. You'll never guess which dog actually did get that qualification 😉🤣

I think it should be tested at all gaits. There's no point being able to trot for 20km if they can't even walk properly, or 'canter' for that matter.

And again the winning dog - a truly shocking example of a pedigree dog, poor lumbering unathletic beggar. Those eyes 🤬.

Showed by a man convicted for cruelty against a dog.

A Royal Kennel Club spokesperson confirmed Mr Cox’s conviction but said it was an “isolated incident 25 years ago”, adding Mr Cox has had an “unblemished record in the 25 years since”.

Sums up both the disgrace that is the Kennel Club and the farce that is Crufts.

ETA There are a LOT of adverse comments out there about both Lee Cox’s previous cruelty conviction and the awful state of the winning dog’s eyes.

Jemima Harrison (look, I know, bear with me on this...) claims evidence this evening that the KC edited the 2024 BoB portrait of the clumber in their commercial image library, improving the appearance of the eyes.

There was a lot of discourse on SM where people were getting muddled between the 2024 BoB photos and the current ones, accusations that it wasn't the same dog or of people doctoring the images to worsen the dog's appearance. If true, the KC themselves felt the need to digitally alter this dog's appearance...

@Britestar I think she likes them..... currently acting like Golum with her preciouses

Dragon dog! 😂🐲
He's manly enough to make it look good! 😍
Prob because he wasn't entirely sound in front but then a lot of terriers look unsound to me so perhaps im being overcritical! Just because soundness is my passion. But he did look slightly uneven in front to me. The only group finalist I would have had was the cocker!
Left fore was twice the size of right.
he had a patella hop left hind on both the first go round and running after the judge inspection

Though also at the start of the first go round he looks so strung up he isn't actually getting his left fore to hit the floor.
Might explain the awful handling. Deliberate cos he was lame on that huge forepaw?
The English Setter didn't even get a look in in the Gundog group, I would love for one to win! There's only around 200 bred a year and they're great dogs, should be more popular! I must say that I don't like the show trim that they get though :D I prefer the wild look of ours.

We also got a pink goughnut!
I keep telling my OH they look like oversized springers and we NEED one. I think they're absolutely gorgeous.

I saw this comparing the winner with a Clumber from the gundog display (the photos of Bruin are, apparently from two years ago when he won best in breed). Nothing about the best in show looks good in this comparison.
Omg. Left dog is gorgeous. Other picture, dunno what to say, but I'd want surgery if my dog's eyes looked like that. 😢

They also pull funny, judgemental faces like this (or it may just be a Clover thing 😅)

Edit to add: when we showed the people at the Discover Dogs stand photos of her they instantly said she needed a hair cut :D I think the hair is great!

It was a manic two days for us!

Discover dogs for both weekend days, Sunday we were also competing in the BASC and breed classes.

The dogs were legends at all times, Erik won his post grad class - and this time he wasn’t actually standing alone! Erik doesn’t get a red frilly unless he’s the only one in the ring?! 😂 I was shocked- especially as he’d been on hunger strike for the 4 days prior to the show 🙈

Congratulations to everyone for their successes 😊 we’re off to spend this weekend gundog training and getting muddy as an antidote 😁

Ha, her face is brilliant! 🤣 I love the hair, mine are quite shaggy, although we scalped G last week, he’s so low to the ground and an absolute filth monster.
