She’s an irish sports horse/traditional irish horse. Sire was thoroughbred x ID but dam was cob cross. Sire was 16.1 and dam 15.2
Although my last horse grew to 15.2 by 8 and both his parents were under 14.2
I went straight down to ergot then twisted, straight up the leg but followed the shape of the shoulder at the top.
What height did it say?
I went from elbow to middle of fetlock, followed the body contours and it came out 1-2 inches more - her skin was very loose around her elbow so it shifted a bit as I rotated the string so the 1 inch more might be the more accurate measure.
I tried it on my fully grown 9 year old and it came out at her wither.
