Curious - will my horse grow anymore?

She’s an irish sports horse/traditional irish horse. Sire was thoroughbred x ID but dam was cob cross. Sire was 16.1 and dam 15.2

Although my last horse grew to 15.2 by 8 and both his parents were under 14.2

I went straight down to ergot then twisted, straight up the leg but followed the shape of the shoulder at the top.
What height did it say?

I went from elbow to middle of fetlock, followed the body contours and it came out 1-2 inches more - her skin was very loose around her elbow so it shifted a bit as I rotated the string so the 1 inch more might be the more accurate measure.

I tried it on my fully grown 9 year old and it came out at her wither.

It’s definitely hard to twist it back - I found it hard to stick to the elbow. Might be worth asking someone to help.

Keep this updated next year if she grows would like to know ?

Most will grow on a little bit more at least from rising 4.

I’ve got a homebred mostly warmblood who was disappointing small, measured about 15.2 rising 4 and now at rising 7 is about 16hh - so not massive growth height wise but combined with muscling and schooling he certainly looks bigger

I really like a 15.2hh as I'm not overly tall so find them a nice height but I struggle to envisage her ever being strong enough to carry me, she still looks so weak in comparison to my 14.3 (who I also feel too big for).

I need to try the string test on my 2 year old. I'm a bit dubious though - OH's old horse and my Arab had roughly the same length legs, but OH's was over a hand taller as he had a big body (7' rugs) compared to mine (5'9 rugs). Surely conformation/breed must play a part.

That's a point, I wonder what stops growing first, length or height? My girl is short coupled, was 5'9 now 6'0 but I daren't buy her a full wardrobe of rugs in case she goes up a rug size.

2 seems quite young to be fully grown, were they small ponies? There's an ID on my yard who was 17.1hh at 4 and is now over 18hh - too big to measure with the stick now - aged 6 and is only just starting to fill out so it does seem very variable.[/QUO
biggest was a 15.2 hannovarian the next a14.1 connemara and all the others highland ponies at 13.1. All well fed from 6 months all stopped going up at 2 and half filled out and looked bigger and better but didn't grow any more height

When was the last time you measured him, have you checked how much he has grown?

I haven't measured him for about 2 years !! ;) I just sort of go on whether he is chin height or nose height!! I'd guess he has grown about 1/2 an inch recently?! He's probably about 15.2hh ish now which is perfect for me so an inch either way doesn't bother me!

I have a rising 4 year old old who is standing at 15.2hh, has grown an inch in height since April and moved up a rug size - will she be finished growing height wise now? If not, are growth spurts seasonal or random? Her dam was around 15.2hh and her sire was 16.3hh. TIA.
Curious to know what heights she’s reached if you know!
