........I was wondering if you had horses that where brought for you,and when did you get your first horse?
I had to wait till I was 16 and my Grandfather brought me a 14.2 hh skewbald cob mare....since then I have brought all my own horses......and if you have wanted your own horse how long have you had to wait?

PS:-I had mean parents who spent money on my darling sisters ballet career with the Royal Ballet.....so the chance of owning a horse, through my childhood was never an option, sadly!

I didnt get my first horse until I was 19. I had loaned a couple while I worked on various yards but decided I wanted my own, so gave up the low paid work, got myself an office job and bought my first horse.

I had ponies on loan from family friends from aged 7 to 15, then had a pony on loan who had been abandoned in a field, the owners gifted her to me after 3 months. Then bought my first mare, the black one in my sig by installments to my old YO,and have bought the rest myself ever since. My mum helped me buy the grey mare in my sig but it was only a couple of hundred pound over my budget.

I was very lucky I had my first pony at 5 bought for me by my parents, they then bought me my ponies upto recently, they bought me a foal for a birthday present who I had until he died last year and another foal that I sold on a few years ago to fund my current horse.

I guess I was very lucky. They are horsey as well which I think does help.

I had my first, a wild little shetland! Bought for my 4th Birthday, and I always had ponies as I grew up, bought by mum and dad. I bought my first horse when I was about 19 with my own money (albeit, mum and dad loaned me it, but I had to pay it back!). Since then, always financed by me!!

I have had several on loan over the years but haven't owned one outright. I have Ellie on permanent loan and her owner has hinted that she will be giving her to me for my birthday, so Ellie might be my first owned horse. I am 41

As a child, I never owned my own...they were loaned/borrowed or work for rides.

My very, very own horse I bought 5 years ago myself...well, OH lent me the money and I paid him back.

Since then, I have also bought the kids ponies and OH bought himself one.

My parents couldnt afford a pony for me when I was young, plus they weren't horsey so there would have been no help with stable chores etc.....but I do think its relatively more affordable to own/keep horses these days.....plus it was drilled into me that if I wanted a horse of my own I would have to work hard at school and get a good job and buy my own....so that what I did.

My son lost interest and we sold his pony, but daughter is on her second pony now....she doesnt know how lucky she is, she cant understand why all the little girls in her class are jealous of her having her own pony.....

Bought my first horse at 21 once I had a good enough job to pay mortgage and have a horse! Come from a non-horsey 1 parent family so although my Mum would have if she could it was never an option, didn't get lessons until in teens either.

My parents got me my first pony at 13, they bought me two more after that (and they were passed down to my sisters too) and then I had a break from horses after moving out till i could afford my own. Had her a year now and she's my first paid for out of my money

My parents got me my first (and currently only horse) when I was 13. I thought I was going for a hack at a riding school after school when it turned out that actually they were giving me a horse! I was under the impression all day that my bday present was in fact somethign completely different (which I'd asked for) that hadn't arrived in the post on time!

He was the best buy ever - I'd ridden him a couple of times before and thought he was amazing and my instructor just knew he'd be perfect for me (which he is). He was 4 when I got him and now he's almost 14 and has never let me down! It's also great as a few years ago I managed to get in touch with my old instructor and she now trains us privately and she knows exactly what ticks with him because she remembers when she re-backed him as a 3/4yr old!

I had my 1st pony bought fior me at 10 by parents, mum continued to buy me through till she got the last one for my 21st after that any I had I bought myself, though she continued to pay for lessons and went half on my livery.

Mum brought Millie as a foal when I was about 11 but by the time she was old enough to be backed I was to big for her.

I saved up as soon as I started work at 16 and brought Charlie after loaning him for a year.

Mum brought me Pixie for my B'day last month.

My Grandfather brought me first one at 14 after a very pear shaped loan wnet horribly wrong and my mum and him decided the couldn't deal with the heart ache it caused (dangerous horse, ababdoned by owners etc...) my Gran (10 years ago last month) still is unaware of this. At 18 that horse had been on rest for year and wasn't going to come competion sound again, I apparently was a mess although unaware of this at the time, I was also working as a Vet nurse so keeping the horse and me was pretty much it so no chance to save money. Mum brought me my next comeption horse. Which I am eternally grateful for and still say thank you so much. (I still kept the other one until she was PTS'd due to colic three years ago and just pottered about with her)

I have been very lucky - I have started saving now for the future.

My parents were massively horsey, I had my own pony by the time I was 18months and have had one or two on the go ever since then, I'm very lucky.

I worked from the age of 13 to pay for share ponies, when I was 19 I took Lady on full loan from the local rescue sanctury and she was paid for by my savings and part-time job. I was 26 when I brought Fudge out of my savings (again

).
My parents aren't horsey at all and couldn't afford to buy/loan a pony for me. I've always had to finance the horses myself without help from family or OH.

I have never had a horse bought for me either. I bought my mare myself when i was 19 (i think) . I rode ponies of my cousins before that and had ponies on loan.

I bought my own first horse with my first months wages and when I sold her boiught my second horse from the proceeds. My gorgeous hubby bought my third horse as an anniversary present.

My mum had a pony before I was born so I inherited her and she was fab, and then my parents always had arabs and they always made sure i had 1/2 ponies as I was growing up. Bought my first pony myself 5 weeks ago

and my fiancee bought me a horse for my 21st birthday 2 years ago

When I was about 7 I was so desperate for a pony I put an advert in our local post office asking if anyone needed help with there ponies. A local farmer answered who had a scruffy little pony he had bought for his totally disinterested kids. I rode him for about a year and then the farmer decided to sell him. My lovely parents bought him for me for Christmas. He was tied up in the garden with a huge red bow around his neck on Christmas day.
He was the naughtiest cheekiest pony in the world but I loved him so much. I kept him for twenty years.

I was bought my first pony at 6. And was subsequently kept in ponies until I was 16, when I bought my own.

My mother was a single mum and slogged for me to have my pony bless her.

My dad bought me my first pony when I was 9 (in America) and my Mum bought me my first pony (in England) when I was 10; then she and my step-Father bought half shares in a livery yard when I was 12 because by that time I was show jumping every weekend and had another pony and it actually worked out cheaper for them that way. Cheaper than them paying livery on someone else's yard for the facilities I needed at that time. At 16 my Mum and step-dad sold my ponies and their share in the yard, and I was on my own from then on. Within a month of them selling my last pony I'd bought a 7 month old foal for £210 and still have him now - out on permanent loan to the same woman who loaned him from me when he was 7 and I had just started at university as a mature student. I've bought all my own horses since the age of 16 - and paid for them and their upkeep myself. Be nice for someone else to buy me one though (hint, hint to OH!

)

The first pony (bought for me by my Dad in America in 1977) stayed with us until he died in 1999, aged almost 34 years old

I've wanted my own horse since I can remember! Dream was finally made reality when I was 16, just a couple of days before my 17th birthday. I had been loaning him for 6 months, the owner came into financial difficulties and gave him to me

My parents/aunt bought/gave me a pony for my 10th birthday. I was ecstatic...

They then sold it without my knowledge, for some kids Christmas present which was a kick in the teeth

Unfortunatly my parents are about as unhorsey as they come and quite careful with their money, so the words 'I am not getting into debt so you can have a pony' were often heard in our house! Despite me and my sister both being horsey, they just couldn't afford one. Didn't stop me dreaming about the christmas morning where there'd be no presents under the tree apart from a card that had my name on it and inside a picture of my new pony... Don't think that'll ever happen!

I got my first pony when i was about 10 years old, he was a strawberry rome cob called Eddie, (excellent jumper!) Then about a year later i got 2 other pony's, one Called Quiz, a welsh section a arab brown, and a black shetland called Lilly!
