What is everyone doing with their neds at the moment?

Ours are still out, wimpy 18yo TB has summer turnout on as has the preggers orange one... fat part welsh part polar bear still unrugged.

Only Asti was being fed - chaff and stud balancer - but TB now getting a bit stiff looking so have started to feed her with a joint supplement.

Just dithering over whether to up the rugs to mediums - its not too soon is it?

Evi twin on holiday so can't really consult her...

Its not terribly cold yet up here, though its supposed to pee down tomorrow...

Usually I just get on with things as I see fit, but TB getting doddery (not mine - she's my sisters) and being a softy with Asti (final scan due on Friday!) I'm being very do-I-don't-I about it all!!!!

My TB is out with his medium full neck rug, however we are near the sea and higher up, the cobs are out without rugs cause their winter coats are through already. Our elderly gentleman is out with a medium full neck rug too, and the cob foals have a light summer turnout rugs on as their winter coat isnt through yet.

Murphy is given a small amount of food daily, as we mix glucosamine through his, the others get fed just over an hour before they are rode, sometimes i give them a wee bit afterwards for being soo good (I know i shouldnt heehee).

Mine will be out all year round, except Mo (TB) and Murphy (27yo), as they are coming in if weather gets too bad. Mo is terrible for losing condition.

On really bad days the cobs do get rugs too, its cause im a protective sort lol, couldnt sleep if i knew they were out in bad weather with no rug.

I may get shot down but it has worked for me,i have a 12 yr old tb,never raced, awesome temperament gets a reasonable winter coat, has lived out for the last 3 years and is as fat as a pig, lol,ok maybe not, moved yards and doing more now

,looks good!!He has had his winter weight rug on the last 2 weeks intercahnging with medium in day,i like to stop winter coat coming so i dont have to clip with him living out, works well,i just add an extra rug later on if needs be!!Amazing how much warmer they keep themselves walking round a field rather than be stuck in a stable! If you worried about old guy, according to the weather???????????????You should be ok with medium till end of this wk!lol,c what it is doing when you wake up!!

All mine are out without rugs at present. LW rugs will go on once it starts to get really wet again. We have quite restricted grazing and will have to start feeding haylage in the field soon.

Mine are in at night and out during the day either naked or with their LW rugs on. They're both half-clipped and have a fleece on at night. It's pouring down right now, so I suspect they'll be spending the morning in their stables with some haylage.
I think it's still too warm where we stable for MWs, but lots of horses on our yard already have their hw + neck rugs on in the stable and field.

All mine are still out, two unclipped ones have LW on(TB and old chap) and the two full clipped ones have MW half necks on, all are happy but they do get an evening feed, have loads of grass still. Plan is that they stay out until after bonfire night (next door neighbours have a party) and then come in at night time after that..

I have felt sorry for horses with heavy rugs on over the past month or so. I was walking round in short sleeves yesterday, so I don't know how hot some of these horses were.

I usually go with how I feel - if I am hot the horse doesn't need a rug.

Mine has had a thin blanket on at night since late August, just to keep the draft off his back as it is a very exposed stable. In the autumn I do not rug during the day until he is clipped, unless it is pouring down. He is growing his fluffy winter coat now, although he doesn't grow much coat.

It is very hard if you have to get up early and do the horse before work, because the weather can seem quite cold and nasty, yet by 9.30 be a lovely day.

Mine come in at night all through the year. I would like to leave them out in the summer but I have restricted grazing and it just fits in better to keep to the same regime all year.

mine are all out 24/7 light weight rugs and no feed. The weather is supposed to be fantastic tomorrow and for teh next 4 days so they will be back totally naked. I have not clipped yet as no need. I do try and avoid rugging as long as possible and generally wait until I have clipped before putting on a 200g rug

I have three - my 18 yo TB has been out with a no-fill rug on during the day (partly because midges feast on her if nude) and a MW at night, and my two youngsters have had their no-fill's on quite a bit.
They live out 24/7, and get a little bit mix (handfuls) and a little bit Speedibeet, hay and haylage (as not much grass left).
The TB seems much happier and less stiff out all the time.

Still out 24/7 the 3 that are in main work get rugs on overnight, naked during the day.

Our livery has just clipped one of theirs out fully and left him out 24/7 with a light weight on... i think thats a bit mean personally! Although i guess its not really freezing yet!

Still out at night and coming in during the day (to keep their weight down), just being fed their summer rations of a handful of happy hoof and suppliment. Neither are wearing rugs yet either.

Bramble, Teazle and foals are out 24/7 and fed stud and conditioning feed once a day.

Lottie and Flo are out 24/7, Lottie with HW rug as shes fully clipped except legs and is a wimp, Flo is in a LW rug and shes fully clipped. Both are starting to get fed now, Lottie Maintanence nuts and Hi-Fi, Flo Competition Mix and Hi-Fi.

All will come in at night once my stables are built

Full clipped cob out during the day with a lw t/o rug, in at night with a cotton sheet. Very soon he'll have a mw stable at night.

He's being fed 6 sections hay a night, plus 2 handfuls chaff with his supplements. Soon I'll up the hay, but change him from molassed chaff to hi-fi lite, as he gets hyper when fully stabled in the winter.

My thoroughbred has a LW on during the day with a fleece underneath (no pennies for MW) a heavier rug in the stable at night 2 haynets and 2 feeds as cant keep the weight on her, poor grazing isnt helping. Hoping that this will improve when we move yards next week. Is my first horse after owning ponies and blimey are they more work - and money! Although where we live there hasnt been any of this much talked about sun!

Well mine is out in the day mon to thurs. Then friday to sun hes out overnight, its just so then I can come home and not have to worry about him, more convenience for me really. He loves it though, He has a lightweight turnout on. He is very fluffy so dont even need that.

He will be getting clipped though soon he looks a tramp.
He is getting haylage and hard feed but is in work. He gets rode every night in the week and gets rode for at least an hour. And is worked hard as he is hunting fit and plan to do some over winter with him.

Georgie is still out 24/7 but is now fully clipped. Has been having a m/w half neck on at night and a light weight on during the day. If anything he has been getting a little warm!

Ours are out except for 5 hours during the day (they will get switched to in at night when weather gets bad).

Gem -ID, no rug, winter coat through
Ru - WB, lightweight (40g) rug at night, no rug during the day unless particularly cold/wet
Bodey - Cob, just been clipped so MW rug overnight and LW during the day

Feed hasn't changed.

My share is fully clipped, out during the day with LW NZ, and in at night (but only from last weekend when he was clipped), and has a lightweight rug on at night, but only as he's a big girly pants and feels the cold!

Bea is out during the day with a sheet on and she is in at night wih a 100g rung with neck.
She still has a summer coat..no swigns of hairyness yet.

She is fed in the evenings (Alfa A, Alfa Beet, mix, garlic, equilibrium and Vits&Mins and carrots)

She also has between 15 and 20 lbs of Haylage at night (as much as i can stuff in her Haybar)

She is happy and looks fab so i reckon i'm doing something right!!!

Mine is out 24/7 on two scooops of topline a day, rugged and apparently losing weight like there is no tomorrow. Thankfully I'm home at the weekend and he'll be going to my instructors yard where he'll have his feeds split and be in at night/

Out 24/7. No rugs. No feed.

It was 30C yesterday and I had to hose 6 horses down after they'd been galloping about in the paddocks. Weird October weather!

Both out and wearing middleweight rugs: Star because she is clipped, Believe because I am hoping not to clip her. They are on haylage and feeds morning and night already

At the weekend and yesterday it was mild enough for them to have rugs off in the day

but tis tipping down today

All three live out. My TB has LW (no fill) on every night but it comes off in the day if the weather's dry. Sister's pony has just started having his LW on overnight and the Welshie is still naked - except for her fluffy coat of course! All three have a very small feed in the evening (just happy hoof + supplement) and none are clipped. My guy doesn't grow much of a winter coat so probably won't be but sister's pony may have to be done soon.

My Wimpy TB is out 24/7, and has a 200g full neck on, sometimes his LW on if its not quite as cold. Was just a standard neck rain sheet/LW until 2 weeks ago but it is going down to 3-4degrees at night (its called winter hill for a reason

) and is barely making it past 10 degress during the day and you always get a sharp wind up at the yard too. He had no rug on for a few hours during the day as it really warm for a few hours and it gave him time for his skin to breathe a bit!

He only has a scoop of happy hoof when he comes in. Has a net in his stable when i bring him into ride/groom/cuddle but hes not eating much of it at the min. As its been so wet the grass has stayed pretty good at hes holding his weight nicely

Is it cold over there? Still warm/hot over here, but cooler at nights now. Horses all out without rugs and not being fed yet.
