Anybody following Piggy and the team cycling from Blair in Scotland, to the savoy hotel in London?

I don’t envy them, that’s for sure! This freezing cold weather and those hills and now the storm rolling in.

I have donated as half of the money raised is being donated to spinal research which is really important.

Yes, I’ve been following too. They come very close to where I’m based next week on their route to Burghley. unfortunately I’m away then so won’t be able to cheer them on as I’d love so give them my support

Very worthy cause, but I hope that they amend their plans if the weather dictates 😳.

The route.

Yes am following and have donated. Epic challenge for 2 great charities. Alistair Wilson is riding, husband of Nicola, who of course have their own reasons for supporting research into spinal cord injuries.

I'm so relieved to see they got off their bikes today, it was asking for someone to get injured. Road bikes and snow do not play together well. Though I also still hope they don't get taken out by a driver while they are walking.

Why did they decide to do it in November I missed that somewhere along the line?

I’m hoping that they pause the walking for today, which tbh looks as hazardous as the cycling.

We’d all rather that they finished the day in one piece, no one’s going to ask for a refund of any sponsorship money in the circumstances if they get partially car assisted.

They are on foot at the moment and plan to go until the light fade or they can get on their bikes. Utterly grim but they are keeping on!

I would presume to fit around eventing calendar.

I've donated and hope they stay safe, no one can doubt their commitment to the challenge!

Its the BE ball at the Savoy on Saturday, historically another very big fundraising event.

They are doing amazingly well. The weather has not been on their side at all but they seem to be getting by, with their humour still intact!
Cat flew from New Zealand to do this, she was paralysed in an equestrian accident. She must have some hench biceps.
Also, Ian stark is a legend - 70 years old and keeping up with the young guns!

Will donate again come pay day, they deserve it.

I was actually a bit jealous of her trike, it seemed to be going great guns and it must weigh a fair bit more than a roadie.

It's genuinely really hard to dress appropriately for this sort of weather too, too much you sweat and then chill the minute you stop and I max out about 4 hours in the cold with battery handwarmers dotted about my lower back and my trusty battery powered socks in my insulated winter boots (feet turn to ice when you're clipped in as they just aren't moving).
I'm sure whoever it was I was arguing on facebook re. hi vis and daytime running lights on bikes in summer will be pleased they had their aero tabards on 🤣

I just donated and was a bit surprised that the current total wasn't more :( They have been good at posting updates on facebook but maybe need to make a bit more of the current total and have an amount they are aiming for?

they've had very little interaction on the facebook posts though which will mean it's not coming up for other people. Even though I've been sort of following it I have no idea who is actually doing it, who is doing the whole thing, who else is joining when etc. And they've just posted about booking to join them from windsor, hadn't heard that was even a thing previously.

I think what isn't helping is the facebook posts are coming through from what's on instagram, rather than actual posts.

Yes @ester - I'd seen they'd opened up the final leg on Saturday. The route's on the website and they're offering a shuttle back to Datchet if enough people need it.

Ah I didn't realise that as don't do instagram.

I might have gone but as most horsey people (not even having my own!) I'd need more notice to be able to go!

Oh no, my choice of sponsored rider has had a tumble and has fractured a thumb 😥.

Best wishes, Ian Stark, ouchies. They are all exhausted and knackered now. Also been a lot of bike problems today.

ETA I chose Ian because he’s even older than me, and while he is very fit for his age he has looked very tired.

Poor Starky! Ouch!

I really hope their current total grows a lot more. Shocked to not see them being promoted by other well known eventers. I’m not even eventer and don’t even have horses these days but have donated and shared.

No word yet on whether Ian will get back on the bike, but I can’t see how he can. You need a good grip of the handlebars and to be able to freely operate the gears. Plus it would be bleddy painful.

I hope that sense will prevail and that he sits the rest of it out, he can cheer them on from the sidelines. He’s ridden much the majority of the route.
