D rings at back of saddle

Was cleaning a GP saddle I never really use today and noticed there’s d rings at the back/side of the saddle above the panel - never used them myself and wondering what exactly they’re used for?

the d rings are quite small though, I would have thought it was for some sort of tack to stop the saddle slipping or rising at the back but maybe I’m thinking far too much about it ?

I thought the same at first but I’ve never seen it before! If that is it’s purpose it would actually be quite useful

Never seen it before what is it used for?

A strap goes under the tail along the back and attaches to the d ring , it does stop the saddle sliding forward...used to be used a lot on childrens' ponies.

Thanks for that I was searching cropper lol new it was something like that there usually seen as part of a harness as well

I sometimes roll up a long coat and attach it to those D rings, and I have a banana bag that can attach to them. Not the same as the one below, but similar.

I use mine for a horse ID tag. It’s got all my emergency phone numbers, name, etc in case horse and I get separated!

D rings at the back of the seat were standard on saddles 40 years ago. Two on one side or two on each side. For attaching saddle bags.

Lots of endurance saddles have the D rings on the side for attaching saddlebags or tying bits of kit to. I screwed my own crupper loop to mine, I like to use a crupper if I'm on steep routes in the hills ?

You can also use them for attaching a parson's rump.

I had one of those Parson's Rump. I did not like it so sold it very shortly afterwards. Fiddly to fit and would keep sliding to one side even though correctly fitted. Would not buy another.
