For context.

As some of you will know, my partner and I have been away for two months in Thailand. Daisy has been with friends and their two dogs who she adores. We collected her on Sunday. She's been quite subdued since we collected her, which is something I was expecting. And I've put it down to missing her pals and readjusting to being at home.

She had her anal glands expressed this morning (they were mildly full) and also had ear drops for a very mild infection. She's had all of this before, and it's never been an issue in terms of bringing her down. Shortly after coming home she vomited twice. And she's been very withdrawn and lethargic all day. I took her back to the vet this afternoon. No temperature, heart rate good. No breathing problems. Not dehydrated. She's reverse breathed twice (which she never does). So she was given some Metacam in case of general discomfort from bottom and ears.

She's absolutely not right though, and I'm worried. She's 11 now, but is usually bubbly and enthusiastic.

Any thoughts on what I should be thinking about in terms of what could be wrong? Or am I just being a paranoid owner?

She'll be back at the vets in the morning if I'm still concerned.

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear she's under the weather.

It sounds like her general clinical signs are ok but I know I would worry myself over it too, especially if I didn't have the first hand view of how she's been leading up to this.

Did they take bloods? And did they check her airway in case she's got something like a twig stuck, and that's causing her to reverse breathe and retch, which might explain the vomiting.

Ear infections can be pretty ghastly and disorientating though so it really could be that straightforward, combined with the excitement of you coming home.

I hope she's better by tomorrow.

Could it be a UTI?

Percy was really not right for about a week not too long ago, had awful diarrhoea, was sick a few times and was definitely quiet. Vitals were all fine and he got better on his own.

I think dogs can feel under the weather like people/get bad stomachs etc. It’s really hard to not worry too much but it sounds like it could just be she’s a bit under the weather.

Hope she perks up soon, I know how much she means to you!

Poor Daisy. It’s the hardest part working out what’s wrong. You know your dog though so you’re right to have concerns. Hope it’s something simple and she’s soon well.

No bloods run yesterday @LadyGascoyne .

She's eaten a little this morning. But still very quiet.

UTI is a definite possibility @IrishMilo as she had a very bad one a few years ago.

Apologies to all, I realise this morning that asking for some sort of 'diagnosis' on line last night was a bit ridiculous.

But it was good to write everything down. I'll update later xxxx

No medical advice but hope she's okay. I'd say trust your instinct if you think something isn't right. Hopefully your vets have opening hours Saturday and it's not all emergency

Yep, I think my money might be on a UTI. Wee looks normal. But there's only so much you can see when they're squatting. I'll get a sample later and in the meantime get as much fluid in her as I can.
Usually a UTI involves frequent squatting, not always productively. I would certainly want bloods run and maybe a scan to check for blockage. I hope you get her sorted out very soon.
