My Tb's gorgeous, warm, beautiful and generally awesome rug has rubbed his withers raw! He is 21 so he his withers do stick out a lot. I have changed him into another rug that I know doesn't rub him, but it isn't as snug and I would much rather keep him in the Mark Todd as it's so lovely. So what do you use to stop this from happening? I can't afford another rug now, so I was thinking about one of those stretchy lycra hood things? (sorry, I don't know what they're called) Does anybody use these and how well do they work? Any other tips?

They're called Snuggy Hoods, my daughter's horses all have them and they are excellent, but they are quite expensive - around £70 I think but you could check on Ebay.

I don't know if it would help with the rubbing on the withers but if you want a bib, I would get a bossy bib. The lycra ones sometimes rub but the bossy bibs are fantastic and I haven't had a rub mark from one.

someone was posting about this the other day, there were suggestions about using soft gamgees and towels folded up over the withers....apparently they stay in place and do the job. Worth a go in the interim till you get a bib?

*sheepishly*

Am I the only one who originally read that thread title as:

Anyone?

:o

I had problems with a MT stable rug rubbing withers- where the stitching for the neck rug D ring sat. Sewed a folded up gamgee into underside and used it when only a single layer was required. Don't think I would layer up like that.

Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully I will be able to find something cheaper than £70! I will have a look on ebay to see if there is a reliable seller I know that is selling one, if not, I'll just keep looking.
