I witnessed a dog attacking its owner this morning and apart from feeling hopeless about how I watched and didn’t intervene I realise I have no idea if the law applies if your own dog attacks you ? It’s not concerning a bully dog but it is a big intimidating breed.

What a shocking thing for you to witness 😬. You might have got injured too if you’d tried to intervene.

Please do persevere with reporting it on 101. As this happened in public it needs reporting no matter what the owner wishes.

The owner will be concerned about what will happen to the dog, but public safety must come first.

Just out of interest, did you see what happened leading up to the attack?

Yes, I was walking towards him with my dog and his started barking and lunging at mine so I turned away to go back the way I had come. The other dog went crazy, I thought he was going to let him go so I stopped and at that point the dog went for him. Scary how quickly he was on the floor and he was lucky that the dog was hanging on to his arm and not his throat, still did a lot of damage.

That sounds like redirected aggression.
Indeed - dog wanted Bonny and/or her dog but it turned on the owner instead. Thanks goodness that the owner kept hold of the dog, or we might have been reading about this in the news not realising that it was you, Bonny, that was involved.

How incredibly frightening.

At least give him time to think. You don't know him or his dog, or his situation. He may not have been in control then, but hopefully he will be in future.
But you could say that about any dog attack! Oh well hopefully he can control it next time. Lucky old Bonny that when he lost control his dog attacked him and not Bonny or her dog.

Report it as soon as you can Bonny the dog needs euthanizing before it tries to attack another person or their dog again. How awful for you to have witnessed that though.🙁

If he had not held on to the dog Bonny would be in hospital or possibly the morgue. What's to actually think about?
There's a lot of 'if's' .....but he DID hold onto it. None of us knows how injured this chap is. He may even have had the dog put down. Or he might only have a slight bite. We don't know. Surely the injured party has to do the reporting? It'd be an awful world if every dog who had a bark at someone was ordered to be killed because someone saw it. Everyone is paparazzi judge and jury these days.

The dog didn't just have a bark though. It brought it's owner to the ground, bit him and hospitalised him. I think that's a strong argument for having it PTS.
