Dangerous idea… going to Ireland…

Edited to add not sure why you think that for Cavan Sales in particular JBM - they are very reputable and people buy from worldwide so not a local rag and tag horse sale by any means. 🤷‍♀️

All horses will be offered with a current vet cert from an approved vet that has been issued within 7 days of the upcoming sale. You are also able to have another vet exam done after purchase (on the day at your expense) if you feel that the vet cert offered by the seller has missed something. If that is the case you will not have to go ahead with the purchase and any deposit or payment already made will be refunded in full.

Most reputable sellers are more than happy for you to try a ridden horse yourself in one of the available schools on site before it goes in for bidding. The centre's terms and conditions are very strict and do offer a great deal of protection for buyers. If you are going it is well worth studying their terms and conditions, familiarise yourself with the list of approved vets and also the section on Transportes. All there on the link I posted. Usually all of the better known ones are there on the day so no problem at all with arranging transport to the UK. They know what they are doing so won't be a headache for you to get the horse back to the UK.

I have bought and sold some very good horses there in the past and have never been disappointed with either the price I got for ones I sold or the quality and price I paid for horses purchased. With one mare in particular after going in the catalogue I was contacted by a potential buyer from Scotland, they came over 3 days before the auction, rode the mare and tried pretty much anything they could want to do with her here at my place. They made an offer there and then but I turned it down as I would have been liable for Auctioneers fee's anyway. They bid on her at the sale and bought her for considerably more than they offered me beforehand. That was a very nice day, but they were happy too. ☺️
I never said that was JUST for cavan
She asked for recommendations that’s my recommendation I only pointed out you should have a good eye for horses as it definitely makes it easier in that type of environment.
It’s all well and good that you’ll get your money back but you might have missed out on a horse you really liked because you didn’t pick something up on the one you bid on

I’m not sure why you have to single out my comment ☺️

Actually you did just make that comment regarding Cavan Sales and I think the remark in isolation is probably quite unfairly off putting for would be buyers. It leaves a question mark over the reputation of the Cavan Sales when you do not make that proviso for any other recommendations, surely you can see that? You made a recommendation but with reservations, I made the same recommendation but without your caveat as I feel your comment would apply to ANY horse purchase here, in the UK, private or from a sale. IMHO you would have more protection buying through the Cavan Sales or Goresbridge than from many, many private sellers and dealers both here and in the UK.

I am also rather bewildered that you aren't sure why I singled out your comment, for all the reasons stated above and you were the only person making that comment. Surely if you are horse shopping anywhere you need a good eye for a horse, or if not make sure you have someone with you who has?

I can assure you I have no interest in 'singling you out' as you describe it, what a bizarre reaction to one person commenting on your post with their own opinion on a matter you have raised?

Dude we can both have different opinions 😂😂 you aren’t the law
I’m sure Cavan will survive

Are you really not understanding? I actually agreed with your recommendation but disagreed with the caveat? Why on earth has that got to do with... 'Dude .......you aren't the law'!!! What an incredibly passive aggressive and childish response to another poster actually agreeing with part of your post but not agreeing with another section? Ho hum, perhaps it is something to do with the company you keep 'Dude' .....inserts a couple of big laughey laughey emojis to emphasise just how casual and laid back about your opinion I am. 😂😂 🤷‍♀️

I’m gonna bow out of this thread! Mrs Jingle clearly seems hell bent on derailing the thread for some reason to argue over literally nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️
Hopefully you get some more actual suggestions OP ☺️
Fingers crossed you find a stunner!! 😍

There's always nice horses in irish sales but there's nearly always sharp ones as well. Most dealers if they can't sell a horse to their usual contacts they'll take it to a sale. Goresbridge you have 7 days to complain if theirs something wrong and most times you can get a refund. Caven probably has something similar.
