I don't...

I am scared of being judged and told how rubbish I am.

Don't think this means I don't like being told how to improve, just I rely on instructors to tell me how to proceed. I often ask for advice on exercises to supplement this from people on here, but I'm a little bit shy asking any more than that or showing my progress!

Am I just sensitive, or are there others like me out there?

I would if I had any! But thats because I know I'm doing the best by my horse and although my riding needs crit I'm not causing the horse harm....!

Yes, but only the ones I think are good. So I wouldn't post a picture if my legs were too far forward in the sitting trot, nor of the 'downbeat' in the canter. I would put videos on here, but probably only the ones, again, that I am 'proud' of.

I have posted pictures of me riding before and I would again, as all of the criticism I've received has been totally constructive and friendly. I think people only start getting harsh on here when they are worried about the welfare of a horse, which is completely understandable

Aah yes, but I am more meaning all of us that feel they DO do the best by their horses but daren't post photos of themselves doing this for fear of being told that actually they are rubbish and don't deserve a horse. (Even if this is totally unfounded...)

I dont mind, i have before. I just take the contructive stuff and ignore anyone who is just rude. i know i am far from perfect. If you dont want crit about something i dont put it up tho

Is this not what a certain infamous person might be doing? (I know that many comments are perfectly civil and helpful, but many are just nasty) However if there are more rude (or interpreted as rude) comments than not, there is the risk everything might be ignored?

Yes I do all the time in my comp reports! And my sig!
I don't care, Ive had a few useful tips/insights from posting in comp riders from those higher up the ladder so to speak. I've also had reassurance from doing so. I've never had any negative comments, I've never been told 'wow, your great!' either lol! I know I'm not amazing, I don't profess to be and in return I get 'well done' and 'nice horse' comments which make me really really happy because like most people I try so hard to do my best, and I'm happy to acknowledge (and work on) my faults. If anything I'm probably too self critical and need to relax a bit.
But no posting myself riding doesn't bother me one bit, I go to competitions and clinics so strange people see me ride then anyway.

Nope!
I do post videos to friends on Facebook and am happy for CC. I have been riding almost 30 years, but I find it hard to see good in my riding. I mean, I know I'm a good rider and I'm experienced, etc etc, but when I watch myself I see only the faults and I fear others would too!

If I had photos I'd more than likely post asking for a crit about once a month, I think it's a shame to have all this knowledge at your disposal and not use it to your advantage.

yep, happy to, there are vids of me riding on my youtube account (same user name) so anyone who wants to crit me, please do, and any words of advice much appreciated.
i am aware of most of my faults...
on the flat: tipping forward, gripping upwards with left leg in lateral work, tilting head, looking down, slight 'piano hands' at times.
over fences: overfolding in the air, tipping forwards on take-off, lower leg position not always secure, not always totally accurate to a fence, wimping out at big parallel showjumps...
shall I go on...?!
nothing wrong with a good bit of constructive crit, or, if it's really terrible, destructive crit... sometimes you have to start again to get to where you need to be!

A lot of this rings true for me. I can't see positives a lot of the time which means that I think nobody else will either. I also truly believe I am a far better rider when watching others than doing it myself.

I don't post photos or videos of me riding on here. I'm a big enough critic of myself as it is without the whole worldwide web having a pop! However I do have regular lessons which are often videod and where I pull myself to pieces when I watch them plus post on a private forum for feedback.

i dont post photos or videos because i lack the computer skills. I have had about 2 lessons in my whole life and im not really bothered what i look like on my horse. I worked with horses when i was younger and we were thrown on hunters and told to get them fit. To sum up i waited a lifetime to own my own horse. I look after him myself and my vet says he is looking spot on. We now after some practice leave and arrive back at the stable at the same time as each other. I really dont want the horse world making me think that this is not enough any more.

i post photos of me riding and would post video if I had someone to stand around and if we had a camcorder!

If people want to c/c me then great- I can't afford lots of lessons so they might pick up something I haven't noticed :)

btw, don't underestimate just how experienced and just how good some of the posters on here are. e.g. I happen to know of one who trains one of the best riders in the world. That that calibre of person comes on here, and gives us the benefit of their true wealth of experience, is really quite something. This isn't to put anyone off, it's to encourage, honestly, I think it's fantastic. :) :) :)

See I think that posting vids on here, far from making you feel rubbish can help you to realise that you are on the right track. It's not healthy to be too worried about your riding or what people think. If I got a lot of negative comments I would be thankful as I would know I would have to go back to the drawing board and change it. I love horse riding, I don't want to be rubbish, I want to be good and if I am rubbish I would want to know or how would I improve?
I have nothing to hide.
What does bother me is IF I got crit from people who weren't up to much cop themselves or who were to afraid to put up their own vid. Don't dish it if you can't take it I say!
I would be happy to be cc'd by a lot of people on here such as kerilli who have the knowledge to back it up. I've learnt a lot on here.

The one horrid comment I had was 'why are you using studs on your youngster when you are only jumping 2ft3', I thought if that's the worst someone can come up with, it can't be too bad lol. When I looked up that persons threads it showed someone who wasn't anybody really and who usually got eliminated (maybe because their horse was slipping due to no studs!) so I just had a giggle at it.

I'm just thinking now of my faults lol... Nice horse, shame I'm hunching over with a claw left hand lol.

;) exactly, I don't want to offend them with my meagre and optimistic offering of photos.

I ask for advice and try describe my situation using words, because although a picture paints a thousand words, I normally write about 3000!!

ha, don't worry too much about 'the claw', i happen to know of a former World Champion who used to get that, especially when the pressure was on! ;) ;)

That's ok then, at least I'm in good company! Blimin claw is the bane of my life, I have to chant 'drainpipe arms, thumbs on top' constantly and even then my arm is dying to release the claw!

I don't mind posting Videos, but as I've said on another thread, I do it because I want criticism, I want to know how to improve. I feel that although on forums members can disagree with you, at least it gives you an insight into the way other people ride and train

Im game, need all the help i can get :D

Comp report i did alittle while ago

And another one

I have a long list of faults which im working on, tipping, being slightly infront of him, weak lower leg it goes on . I have loads of vids from home but i never seem to have time to download them on to the web so dont bother asking on here for cc. That said although i know my faults im always open of ideas to try and solve them and find alot of advice on here useful even if its not directly for me.

i did.........i got PAGES of crit and ect, and tbh i think some of that crit has actully [call me stupid but] made me a better rider, after taking it :)
edit : went from rushing fences and them coming down cause the rushing and rider siiting there to jumping bn and disc with hardly any poles :) and schooling at home up to 125cm ish :) x
