Dartmoor ponies urgent

"I agree farming is one of the cruelest industrys. Out of sight out of mind. "

Generalise why don't we!!
So farmers don't have to work within welfare standards set by DEFRA, FABLE, Milk Board, Red Tractor, RSPCA.
I assume you live on fresh air?

There is still one mare and her foal who still urgently need re-homing from the first lot of ponies if anyone is interested.

I hope they find these a home. The posters who suddenly think animals are disposable worthless, shame on you. ie "its not a registered charity" sooo what! No fantastic pedigree or not at least they are trying, even if they find a few good homes better than doing nothing. Thats all that matters. But to get branded do gooders you could direct that at anyone that helps anything or anyone. At least someone is trying to make a difference and the assumumption most of these will go to bad homes. Humans are the cause good or bad.

Glad to have posted this even if it saves a few poor souls that are not the finest specimens(but I think so).

A arable & pig farmer of (300 years on same family farm) is always telling me this. That if people grew and killed their own meat they would not be so wasteful (going to supermarket so easy). Yes out of sight out of mind & he follows all the legal eagle stuff.

Thanks, I don't have much to do with the organisation any more as I suffer from ME and it got too much as there is so much involved in running it but I did help from the set up and was involved from 2005 to 2010 fully. In all those years they have worked very hard to help educate people on how to handle unhandled foals and ponies it's not just a do gooder rescuing some ponies it's about education of people, support for those who took ponies on then didn't know what to do and working directly with other organisations and farmers to change things which is never going to happen overnight. Personally I do think things are better now than they were in 2005, being shot on the farm for one is better. Some farmers are breeding less which is better, some farmers are gelding which is better, schemes are being tried contraceptives, vasectomies, geldings so that's better much work is being put in to change things.

And in the meantime ponies need homes if they can get them.

I am trying not to rant too much as it tires me out going over old ground as to the ins and outs and why not just take stallions off etc and I am having a bit of a relapse at the moment so trying to not overthing it all to much lol! Search for previous threads on the subject it says it all!

Thank you. Someone sent the link to me and hence I posted it. Hope the mare and foal find a new home.

I am clearing my barn at the moment and my friend thought I could home a couple when its emptied. They want one for riding for their daughter and are experienced etc and keep all their animals for life(one for her one for me). We will be back in touch I know they have been in communication etc with organiser.

But sounds interesting what goes on. Hope you feel better as well.

Wow! I didn't realize this 'breed' caused such an argument! Only found this thread as Missy is a DHP and I wanted to do my research (should have done it before rather than after) :p
