She was happily popping the Welshie over some jumps in the paddock, pony over jumped one, she got catapulted out of the side door and landed awkwardly on her arm, resulted in a supracondylar break of her left elbow, poor thing was in agony, but looks like she doesn't need surgery :-) Was one of those stupid slow motion falls, only trouble is she fell like a baby elephant

Poor pony stood there and spread her legs so as not to stand on her! Oh well thats horse riding for you!

sorry the baby elephant part did make me laugh!
Oh no that must be so painful right on funny bone! Hope she heals quickly and can be back on board asap hope she isn't nervous.

Well she sees fear anyway, and really got into jumping 3 days ago, today she asked to jump in the paddock, and I was really encouraging her as pony was being a bit sluggish, she wasn't feeling overly confident today anyway, course now I feel REALLY guilty!! Can't see her wanting to jump anytime soon, just hope she is happy to get back in the saddle, time will tell X

Oh poor girl, how painful and what an unlucky fall.

Does it mean time off school? :) there's always an upside

Hell yeah at least a few days :-) she is actually very sore and swollen..... yes totally agree, very unlucky!

'Like a baby elephant' - very very funny!

I made her laugh at this during her hysterics in the hospital, she is sooooooo clumsy! She is just 12 and only weighs 6 stone, so not heavy, but even in gymnastics club, she just isn't bendy! X

Aw what a shame, and such a good pony to avoid stepping on her, i hope she doesnt lose her confidence through it.
Are you going to let her get back on and be lead about a bit :D or am i bad for even suggesting it

I would have gotten her straight back up if her elbow wasn't so swollen lol.

Hope she feels better soon, daughter broke her wrist falling off her pony a few yrs back..it made her more determined to stay on and she has,nt had a fall since. She has broke her elbow though..but she did that falling off a swing..accidents happen .......don,t let her be put off just take it slow and steady when she wants to jump again x

Having gone through one particular fall off Sec A when older son was 5 resulting in major surgery, wires, a week's stay in hospital (me 7 months's pregnant on a Z bed wasn't great :(), I can totally sympathise. Both son and Sec A are still here though (although Sec A only by the skin of his teeth if you read my report in CR!!!). Hope she feels better soon. xxxx

ETA we missed out on a week's holiday to the Isle of Wight, but still went to Euro Disney for a long weekend and got special tickets to dodge all the queues. :)

Feee l for you, my daughter got chucked off hard from our shetland cross, i made her get back on and sort it out. After a couple of hours she started throwing up and losing conciousness so ended up in hospital with severe concusion \(ct scans etc ) oooops !!
she was supposed to be riding in zone games this weekend but had an accident at school and couldnt go, she had given up a school trip to the south of france and a place on area dressage team to go to zone so feel for her but nothing broken and should be ok soon.

Awwww bless you all, trying to make me feel better! She is quite chirpy this morning, must be all the pills she is popping :-).. Luckily we aren't going to Spain until 21st August, so everything will be sorted by then! XX

Took daughter into hospital for a review by a consultant and poor girl has been told she has to have surgery on the elbow, it needs to be plated and it's pressing on the blood vessels and nerves, she is very scared and been crying lots :( X

Awwwwww crap. Poor baby dumpling : (

Mini red mone had a riding fall when she was 8 (now 11) another slow mo fall (at old rs not current one) she broke elbow and both forearm bones and had to have surgery to put back together (bones were completely displaced but not through the skin). 5 weeks 5 days in cast and back on the horse before 6 weeks had passed. Bit of physio and lot of confidence building, but no worse for it. Proved to me how much she loved riding (that's why we bought her dolly!) kids heal so quick and forget their fear.

Chin up and get well soon! Pm me if you want to compare notes!!!!

Xxx

Just seen this. Poor Daughter. Give her a hug from me. I had to have my hip operated on afew years ago after a nasty fall, I was scared and i'm an adult. I hope the OP goes well and she's on the mend soon. x

She loves horses/ponies, but never been the most confident rider, no idea if she will want to get back up, but I won't pressure her, time will tell :-) thanks everyone for your kind words, she's a bit of a panicker! X

Strangely my daughter wasn't confident before the fall, but was more so afterwards. You never know. I really hope she gets well soon, they do mend amazingly quick kids don't they!

Had to laugh at baby elephant comment! Mines like that too!!! She doesn't weigh 5 stone but crashes about like an elephant!!!!!

Get well soon mini dumpling!!!

Failing that you could always get a her a Shetland to show in-hand :D Not as frightening as showing a Welsh against Welshie people and much, much friendlier and they generally have their own Young Handler Classes :D

Basically I think everyone should have a Shetland Pony :D :D :D

At least she is young and will heal quickly and well, she has that on her side :)

We had a girl fall off at work a few years ago and she broke her elbow. Whilst she is still galloping the same sort of horses she used to she can no longer straighten her arm completely. She did this when she was 18/19 but she also has arthritus all over, not a result of the accident she has been like it since she was born.
