PROUD MUM ALERT!!!!!!

So i think my last post (ages ago) was about the nightmare that was the previous loan pony - advertised as 'Perfect 1st pony for coming off the lead rein' and was actually handwork / dangerous at every moment day or night.

Mutual friends have been recommending this mare to us for ages- had discounted her as she was a 'she', but went to try her and the confidence she instilled in my children instantly made the decision very very easy!

We've had Ruby for 2 months now and she has given my girls their confidence back and is now starting to bring them on.

We went to a lovely little starter show yesterday. Ruby was very fresh when we got there (i don't think she has done many if any shows as many been a broodmare with owners) so after a good 20 minute lunge she settled and carried my 5 year old- 'T'- around the 'Poles on the ground' class - T is only just starting to get the hang of rising trot and Ruby was a star and they came 4th which gave T the biggest smile in NATO.

Check out the smile (but ignore the dodgiest mane ever :o:o:o long story...)

And film (sorry for quality i was filmed by a 6yo)

Next class was for my 6 year old- J- Mini cross poles- we have established that Ruby who has mostly been ridden by adults before doesn't like me leading over fences next to her head so we've worked out for me to run ahead. They did fab again a couple of poles down but lots of confidence gained.... So much so that J was keen to try the 1'3 OFF THE LEAD REIN! So after watching a couple she was still keen so we went in and in the same style I ran ahead to help them out. They did fab J didn't want to do one fence (which was quite big compared to the others) but completed the rest of the course again with a couple of poles down- more due to J's balance than Rubys scope. They did fabulously could not be more proud

Video and side line coaching by a 5yo!

They then went on to do Gymkhana- which seemed to confuse Ruby quite a bit at first but she worked it out and earned the girls a frilly in every game.

I could not be prouder of all 3 of my girls roll on the next show! :o:D

Lovely, looks like a great day out and I adore the video of the pony trotting around the SJ's following - she looks like a real darling :)

CUTENESS OVERLOAD ALERT more like!

What a super, super little pony for them! She really is looking after them. Lovely to see such a happy, positive report with so many big smiles!

A good horse is a good horse and the colour or sex really doesn't matter one jot. :)

What a wonderful pony and they all look so happy together. Totally fab. :) :D

I do agree, but I have another Section A who when I bought him I was told he was 'a bit riggy' - although he was only young and not long gelded. I have never seen any sign of this though when we're out and about or with friends mares, but it's at the back of my mind.

He is out on loan at the moment to an older child being brought on so when he comes back sometime next year I'll just have to see - worst case is she'll need to been in the next paddock- my gelding is great with her- I called his previous owners to see if he'd been with mares before and he had been a lot os that makes for an easy life!

She is scrummy and is great with the girls- she is built on quite a sporty chassis so hoping as their skills and confidence go up the level- they can improve and get higher and braver together. She will eventually be T's pony with Sid coming home for J.

And yes we are a smily household today even though we all have bright red and tingly faces from the wind burn we picked up yesterday!

How lovely and what a smashing honest pony following you over the jumps ! well done to both your girls - there'll be no stopping them now !;):D

Brilliant. Very cute pony and smashing children. particularly love it when your little girl whos filming is giving encouragment to her sister ' trot on Josie' aaww.:)

When I see lovely pics and vids like this, I go all gooey and (almost :D ) can't wait to be a granny so that I can do all this again, lol.

Your girls and their pony look so smart, what a sweetie!!

I have to know, what happened to her mane?! :D

Well I said it was a long story..............she has /had a incredibly thin mane anyway and I banned the girls from combing it etc so not to take any from it- it was about 6 inches long so about perfect to do M&M and plaited showing (low level).

But before the heat wave we had there was a cold wet snap so put her back in the medium combo (which she'd worn before with no issue)- I don't know if she got a fly down there but in the space of the 6 ish hours she'd been turned out she had rubbed out to stubble 6 inches of her mane.

So left it and monertered the situation she didn't continue to rub it and it is growing back... BUT the difference between the long thin mane to the now short but quite thick regrowth was really noticeable so thought as I didn't want to pull it to try and retain as much mane as possible I would cut it (I know! I've never done it before but it so so THIN!).

So after the pre-show bath I trimmed it... now in hindsight cutting it wet was probably the worst idea i've EVER had! IT STUCK straight up like a Mohican! So banded it over hence the weirdly bunched clearly scissor cut mane! :o:o

I will plait next week as there is enough mane above and below the gap to make a fake run of plaits from her tail hair to stitch in- and luckily its growing back fast.....

:o:oHangs head in shame:o:o

very justified proud mummy moments:D:D Ruby is a superstar, our old pony would follow me dutifully but go round every jump instead of over:rolleyes: love your action over the jumps as well, slight dishing but very well jumped mum:p

lol don't worry my jumping action is exactly the same!!! if not worse, i could never jump a skinny, i'd take both wings out at the same time with my feet:o

Aww, what a lovely post :)

Ruby reminds me of my first pony. She was a star too. Hope they continue to get lots of frillys and have lots of fun.

Well done to your daughters :)

I love this because a) what a super pony! Just what I'm looking for.....is she for sale? ;)
Also b) I wish I could find a show for my daughter where the clear round is poles on the floor as she can jump one little jump and a little bit of a course but I find the clear rounds we go usually have one huge jump or a filler or something which completely puts her off where it would be nice for her just to trot round and pop over poles. Lovely video sounds like you had a super day x
