Can someone please tell me the correct meaning of the phrase 'Day Bed' I guess it would be somthing like a thin bed in the day just to soak up any wee?

Thanks in advance =]

It's from when clipped hunting horses were kept in all day and after being mucked out a smaller 'day' bed was pulled down before being skipped back out and bedded back down properly in their jute rugs and straight feeds lol.

That's how I would interpret it... I worked on a yard that used what they called 'day beds' for a while - we put most of the bedding up on the banks during the day, then pulled it down after skipping out during evening stables.

No use for my horse - she will sleep at any time of the day so has a full bed available at all times

Never understood the logic of it either! When they're tired they're tired!

Lol, it was roasting up here yesterday and I caught horse initially lying flat out in the field, then a bit more upright (but still lying down if that makes sense) EATING!! What a lazy moo!

. Mine couldn't eat lying down because she rests her head on her teeth when she is sleeping. Can't even be bothered to hold her own head up.

Unless you've got good mats I don't like idea of a day bed - i'd not like to have to stand on thinly covered concrete all day, can't be good for the joints imo.

My horses have to stay in 3/4 days a week during the winter so I always use a 'day bed'.

They have rubber matting anyway so during the day I just put all the straw up onto the banks and then at night I bring it all back down. Neither of mine ever lie down during the day so it doesn't affect them at all.
