You know how I am always wildly critical of dog showing? You know how I shout loudly that I wouldn’t be seen dead at Crufts, that dog showing is a total fix, that it is all mad? Well.......?
I noticed recently on my local greyhound rescue page that one of the greyhounds who was in for re-homing around the same time as my boys had gone to Crufts! They do a special ‘racing/coursing’ class for whippets and greyhounds where the hounds don’t have to be KC registered in the traditional sense.... so I found myself wondering whether Ace greyhound might go to Crufts next year ??? He did win BIS at the Greyhound Rescue show this year after all ?
First step is to get him assessed by my mum - she has already said she doesn’t know greyhounds bless her, but she can tell a well constructed dog that moves well a mile off, regardless of the breed ? If she thinks Ace is OK, that will be enough for me ?
If he passes that test then I’ll see about getting him quasi-KC registered (apparently his greyhound pedigree should be enough) - and then I need to get him out and about because he isn’t the most confident soul in the world, even though he has come on in leaps and bounds in the year I’ve had him
I’ve got plenty of time to see if I can build his confidence, if he decides he hates it then it’s no big deal, we stay at home ? but hopefully he trusts me enough now to know it will be OK when we go places together ?
I’m laughing at myself so much for even going on this journey but it will be fun to try, and I hope Ace will enjoy it too - he is such a gentle giant, I love him so much
