Springy's canter has improved such a lot in the school, she is now much more balanced, forward and round. We can maintain a fairly slow and rythmical canter now - something pretty far removed from the kamikazee affair we used to have!

Anyway, my yard have opened up the hay fields for us to ride in so we have about 40 acres to play in

Spring loves it and is nice and responsive, however she seems to have forgotten her balanced round canter and throws herself on her forehand. I vary the speed and do circles and half-halts I also sit up and out of the saddle occaisionally and will sit deep and get her to come back.

So after all that waffle - how do you achieve a good, forward xc canter?

Thankies

As you say your horse needs to be forward going but still responsive, you want your horse to be holding itself without being unbalanced or on the forehand. If your horse gets strong or on the forehand half halt and circle. If still not working then do lots of walk to canter

Do you have any hills???...decent ones? Hills are great for getting the behind working, If she's fit enough, canter up some hills, then you can push her to use her hindquarters. If she's not that fit then you can try walking/trotting up them, and have a short burst of canter so as not to knacker her.
Does she rush off? if she doesn't then try and relax in the frontend but still try and keep her correct, and keep your leg on asking for implusion without letting it go for speed
