Very sweet. And to add to ibblebibbles post, lack of suitable tack, body protectors & hi viz lol! Also kids should be matchy matchy with turnout rug.

There's definitely a photo like that lurking in our family archives! I'm at the front (holding the reins and grinning like a goon) with my sis and 3 cousins stacked behind me! I'm definitely perched on the withers as far as I can recall - how dreadful :p We were also all in shorts and flipflops - the 'Elfin Safety police would have had a field day! :D

Every child should have a photo like that somewhere! :)

Fab picture!!!!!

Should I confess at this point that when I was 13, my 2 friends and I only had 2 ponies between the 3 of us, and took it in turns to ride tandem out on hacks - at canter quite often, and we went out for 2-3 hours at a time. We did wear hats though. BUT the chin straps were neatly tied up on top of the peaks!:rolleyes::D

hehehe naughty, we used to hide our hats in the hedge on the way out on our hack and pick them up on the way home:eek:

You didn't used to ride out with me, did you? That's what I did when I got my mad 3/4 bred TB 5 yr old at 16. Nothing like the feeling of galloping flat out across a field on a nutty horse with hair blowing in the wind! We were always very good and left the yard with our hats on though! Heaven forbid if my children behaved like that.

Thanks for all the lovely comments and you are quite right Ravenwood, Sparks is a total gem. :)

I have a pic somewhere of me jumping (think I was about 7/8), I was tandem and bareback, sat behind my bigger friend on her 13hh pony jumping a pole across the top of 2x barrels stood on their ends. We did have hats of a kind, made of cork and covered in velvet, chinstraps across the peaks, no BP's didn't even know what they were then! ;)

I also have fond memories of playing knights on my friends 16hh mares which basically meant I rode one mare bareback with my friend, and my twin sister rode the other mare bareback with my friends sister. We then cantered the horses towards each other and as we passed tried to pull each other off!! Those were the days, amazing we survived and if I ever catch M up to that with Sparks she is big trouble!!! :D

Heaven forbid if my children behaved like that.

i would find it rather hard to tell my daughter off as it was me who put her on her pony today while he was in his paddock, no hat for her and no headcollar on him:eek: he just followed one of the girls round the paddock like a shadow with daughter in hysterics when he trotted:D wouldn't let her do it anywhere else though;)

Now I think this all shows the true nature of a family pony - I've entered family pony classes at shows and only one judge has ever looked for what I'd considered to be in the true spirit of something safe and sane for either grannie or your 3 year old. She asked us to trot past a jump wing with a scary coat draped over and stood in the middle of the ring opening and closing an umbrella with all the ponies happily unconcerned walking round. Every other class I've done has just called for a ridden show. Maybe it's elf and safety at it again in terms of what they can aske to see?

Last family pony class I did was epic. The judge was encouraging people to do "anything to show off how appropriate their horse was for all the family". Alas, I had to leave straight after my individual show as it clashed with the gymkhana (I'm such a child) so after the judge gave permission to leave and the gymkhana judge was waiting, I just rushed through the show first and left without showing off at all. Mind you, the fact he was doing the gymkhana means he must be pretty solid - unless she saw our novel take on the walk trot rear and canter race

All the others I've done have been boring and dull. We do better when the judge has a sense of humour :o

Fabuous photo, OP!
