Just to clarify the situation - if you import a horse from, say, Holland, you need to have a health certificate before the horse can travel to the UK. However, due to the tripartite agreement, if you import a horse from France, there is no legal requirement for the horse to have ANY HEALTH CHECKS AT ALL before it comes to the UK. I had always assumed that any horse being imported to the UK had to have some form of health check, so I was gobsmacked to find that was not always the case!
