It is apparently the spring grass, even tho pony still in same winter field. The advise i got is to change to alfa a oil. I understand what they mean about spring grass but i think the fiz has deff been caused by change to alfa a, from speedi beat.

I called them to ask about the hi fi range and sugar/starch levels and wanted to know as it is also made with alfafa will it have the same effect.

So can anyone here advise me about the hi fi range?

Hi Fi is a blend of alfalfa and straw. Hi Fi Original is coated with molasses, whereas Hi Fi Lite contains 'molasses extract', so is lower in sugar.

Alfa A Original is chopped alfafa coated with molasses, Alfa A Lite contains 'molasses extract', whilst Alfa A Oil contains oil instead of either molasses or molasses extract.

Sounds like Dengie think your pony may be reacting to the molasses in the Alfa A Original (perhaps in conjunction with the sugar levels in the emerging grass), which is why they suggested changing to the Alfa A Oil instead.

It is perfectly possible for it to be the spring grass even though you haven't moved fields. The grass will still be coming through.

By changing from Afla A to Alfa Oil you will be reducing the sugar content as Alfa A contains molasses, as does Hi fi by the way.

Alfalfa is conditioning, Hi fi range isn't... Depends what you need for your horse really.

I've never known Alfa Oil to heat up a horse... But some people on here have said it has.

I would say B****cks and there is definitley a good chance that the change to Alfa A has made a difference although the spring grass is coming through so that wont help

It could possibly be the Alfa A, it sent my horse loopy and I know a few others who have said the same. I only feed Hi-fi now and considering switching to the lite now that the grass is coming through and she isnt doing any work.

Alfa-A has pretty high protein levels - and sent my horse sky-high! In the middle of winter I might add. Not the only horse I know who has been fizzed up by it, so I would not rule it out completely.

Could be the spring grass as my pony has fizzed up recently and I have not changed his feeding regime. He is on dengie good doer and ride and relax.

There does not look like much grass in his field at all but his poos look much greener. He lives out so presume they just devour it as soon as it grows.

im considering trying to leave out the alpha oil from my warmbloods feed as he has got bit fresh at the moment and hasnt been on the alpha oil for long but have also thought it may be the grass so will wait and test

Thanks for all your replys,

Think i will try the hi fi, i had wanted to try alph a as she is only 3 and not in great condition when we got her 6 mths ago. Looks fab now but could prob do with tiny bit more weight on.

Was a bit amazed at dengie though, they wouldnt even consider that alfa a might have caused the change in her behavour, which i find odd as lots of people seem to think it can fizz up there horses.

Alfa A sent my horse loopy aswel, dengie were no help whatsoever. turned out it was the mollases. you should try either spillers cool fibre or spillers conditioning fibre. i find them to be much better than any dengie products
