Just felt like saying Hooray for the good news about Denman. I went to see him parade at Ditcheat the day after his Gold Cup win; there were hundreds of people surrounding him, the rain was thumping down on a narrow bit of road outside the pub and he was so calm and laid back about it all.
Stood there for must have been 45 minutes just lapping up all the attention. For all his toughy approach on the racecourse, and I'm a massive Kauto Star fan, I did rather fall in love with him. And so glad they're not going to rush him back into action.

Quite the most beautiful horse on earth!!!!
Id give my all to have him as a happy hack! - though naturally I am beyond thrilled he is fine and they arent rushing the mega star!!!

Yey, that is great news, I do LOVE this horse, he has a massive heart and I must admit, he is my favourite out of him and kauto Star, but it's a tough choice

I agree 100% with everything you have written.

I cried when he won the Gold Cup.

He is an awesome animal, and I truly hope he makes a full recovery, though I can't help but wonder how this is going to affect him in the long term...

How typical of racing. Putting a horse that has just been treated for a heart condition back into work. He should be retired - full stop! Do they forget about the likes of Best Mate and McKelvey? Both of whom were literally raced to death. It is a fact that the number of heart-related deaths amongst racehorses is extremely high. You won't be singing his owners/trainers praises when he drops dead!

Oh dear, off you go again........

Best Mate was hardly raced to death, in fact to my mind he doesn't really deserve the accolades he got due to the cotton wool campaign he received, never carrying weight in handicaps and only running three or four times a year. And as for McKelvey, I can only conclude that you don't read the threads that you post on, he broke his back crashing into a post...........hardly the same........

All Denman had was an arrythmic heartbeat.........not quite life threatening, but then you'll know more than all the vets and trainers, won't you.........

........you wouldn't find me admitting to having done the same

Anyway, taking the micky out of you aside, I also wonder just how much racing he'll be able to take, however I don't subscribe to the view that he'll be raced to death as written below

I too, don't subscribe to the raced to death theory, and tbh, Best Mate and McKelvey are ridiculously bad examples of having been raced to death.
McKelvey ran into a rail, and Best Mate was a part-time racer to say the least.

I do wonder though, how this will affect his performance and training. Will he win another Gold Cup?
This jury is out, but I bloody well hope so.

Is it? I would be really interested to know where that data has come from. Has there been a recent study in to this?

I had no idea Denman had a heart problem - but great news that he's going to be okay and I'm sure the owners and trainer will take every precaution to ensure when he does return to the racetrack he's in perfect health. Horses like him should be out racing. It bugs me that racing gets such a bad press in some quarters.

We have one of Denman's half brothers at the yard and he is the most amazingly laid-back, beautiful horse I have ever met!

So I am a huge fan of Denman!

Same sire or dam?

I think 'emotive rubbish' best describes that particular theory! And whilst I would love to see him fit and well back at cheltenham next march, I do so want kauto star to wrestle the gold cup crown back from him

Regarding McKelvey. He almost died in the Grand National after sustaining a devastating leg injury. Instead of ensuring he never raced again, his oh so caring owners put him back in the exact same race and look what happened. As for me knowing more than the vets etc. I know for a fact that vets are paid a lot of money to "agree" with those involved with the running of racehorses. Ask any genuine vet and he or she will say that racing is amongst the cruelest of sports. Mine detests it with a passion! He simply can not believe they were gonna have my boy killed just because he wasn't up to the job. He also said the combination of the burst blood vessel and long break away from the track, could easily have been contributing factors to the death of Best Mate. You can say what you like, but if there is money to be made from a horse, they'll get it either from the killer buyers or racing them until they can do no more.
