I went to visit him this morning, let are reducing the amount of times they drain his belly, and now only getting a little above normal. He is on millions of drugs for matiance, antibiotics becuase of surgory and drugs to help his small intestine work. They did a scan by the time we came about about an hour later, it was good news as the intestine was slowing moving.

However I think the vet was trying to prepare me for idea of letting him go, his heart rate is around 70 odd (should be more like 30) Then theres the weight lose and slightly trembling. The vets are all puzzled by him for sure. They are trying to hurry the grass sickness results. I know that if its positive even with chronic the vets aren't sure hes suitable to save. I think I was more prepared to let him go the first day, the longer he's suviving the more I get hope.

I got to take him out for 10minuits, He had one or two nibbles, much was more interested in surroudings, dragging me down to end of passage and more keen on walking then grazing.

Keep fighting for him, don't give up, he definitely doesn't look like he has. Look at him enjoying his walk in the sun

I lost a horse to Grass Sickness and he didn't last 24 hours or look as bright as your chap, so fingers crossed it isn't that.

Thinking of you both...xx

have been following these posts/updates since the first one you posted, but didnt reply to them as what i wanted to say had already been said plenty of times, but i feel i have to let you know that me and all my family are thinking and praying for you (mum and dad have been following this with me).

I know Amymay, he is slowly becoming more alert etc, its just when vets are talking negitvely then theres no point kidding your self, as long as theres hope however. God knows what I'd do without Dermot.

When I met him...

Keep believeing in him, he definitely seems more alert outside the stable from the pics you posted. We'll all be thinking about you and wishing you both the best.

I hope it isn't grass sickness, or if it is and it's chronic then he can be saved. He does look a lot better and more alert in these photos so try and stay positive.

Still thinking of you x

It is lovely to see him looking so bright - I am truly hoping he will make a full recovery. I know vets often veer on the pessimistic side just to cover themselves.

Will keep everthing crossed for his recovery - he certainly does not look sad and sorry for himself so is hopefully mentally well which is a huge bonus for him getting back to normal.

Think everything has been pretty much said what i was gonna say.

Good luck and fingers crossed for a negative grass sickness result.

x

I know I will get slated for posting this, but FMN please do not get your hopes up with people posting how bright he is looking. Please prepare yourself for the worst. You know what I went through with Higgs and I'm sorry to say this but Dermot is going through exactly what Higgs went through 2 years ago. I more than anyone want Dermot to get better but I am trying to be realistic and don't want you to get your hopes up. I am crying again as I type this as it always seems to be the nicest horses that get GS and its just not fair

Sorry I don't mean to upset the apple cart but I really don't want you getting your hopes up with him, to possibly have them dashed right down. I've done it with Higgs and it was a long way to come down

These were taken on the Friday after Higgs had his colic surgery on the Wednesday morning, vets said he should have been dead on the Thursday and it was confirmed as GS on the Friday and he was PTS on the Sunday. It broke my heart and I just feel so bad that you are going through this with Dermot, if there was anything I could do I would as no horse deserves to get GS.
