Devastated

Vet has just been and said looks like a heart attack that probably threw a clot causing a brain aneurysm so he would have been gone before he knew anything about it. I think that's the best way for him to have gone. Vet brought along a just qualified vet as well from the RVC, so probably not the best first week for her. He just looked so well yesterday and full of life.

I'm so pleased that he escaped into the long grass (a fairly regular occurence) and had a nice few hours eating to his heart's content before he went.

I decided not to go down and see him so my last memory can be of him being his usual cheeky self. He's been taken to be cremated and I've kept some of his mane and tail (and a bit of his gorgeous fluffy forelock).

Thank you for all your kind thoughts, they are very much appreciated. I just can't believe he's gone and won't be there to come up to me in the field for a scratch.

I am so so sorry to read this. I think I saw something similar posted on facebook this morning as well so if that was you, sorry I didn't post there, it started chucking down and I had to put my phone away.

AN awful, awful shock for you, but what a comfort it will be going forward to know that all he knew was the joy of being able to get away with being naughty and help himself to the lovely long grass. I bet he was chuffed to bits with himself and what a lovely way to spend a last night.

Take some time, look after yourself and don't forget to grieve. It's easy not to allow ourselves to grieve for an animal, but we really must. Big hugs to you xxx

So sorry for you - it must have been a dreadful shock. But I really wish my oldie had gone like this - she was PTS at 40 (I'd had her since she was 3) & I was hoping & praying that she'd go naturally, as your boy did.

It sounds as if he was very much loved & had a great time with you, and had the best end he possibly could.

Very sad OP but for me after the shock I think I'd be relieved it was so quick and peaceful - I hope my oldies go the same way, fill their faces with grass then pass away amongst it. x

What an awful shock for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Lovely way to go for him though. He's had a great much loved life and never knew any pain or suffering at the end and there's not many horses that lucky.
Hope your ok xx

What a terribly sad thing to happen but he sounds as though he has had a lovely life with you, escaped for a lovely munch and passed peacefully. "I am not gone, just look into your heart and you will find me". God bless xxx
