Did your horse(s) come to you named? Also......

Chloe came with the name Cloud - so called because she was in a dealer's stable and that was on the door. As she's a great big black shire we thought we better change it as it didn't really suit her.

Megan came to me known only as 'the cob'... the lady I got her from only liked show ponies, so had no time for her... It took me a few weeks to decide on a name, and I now wish I'd called her bramble, due to her getting stuck in them so often!

My first horse came with the stable name Thumper, which I never changed. His registered name was Fairhill and I never did find out why his stable name was chosen...

Mine came named. Firs tpony didnt but owner of stables told someone to think of a name, was cross about that but anyway.
One came unnamed, had a reg. name which I liked and no stable name.
Last one came named, I changed it and had bad luck for about 6 months!

All mine have come named, but none of them had bad names that really needed changing...plus I was always told it was bad luck to change!

My first was Murphy and he was a big Irish cob so it suited him.

My second was Cherry, a dainty TB, which I liked and suited her.

My current is Louis and I think it suits him quite well. He didn't have a reg. name so I reg. him as Loopy Louis...it just suits him so well!

Irish Merryweather - aka Merry
Fieldside Millenium Star - Sidni/Sidney (changed from Star- utterly dire name- but taken out of his registered name)
Taliesins Pollyanna - Polly (Noo Noo)(

)
Fintan - Came over from Ireland as Jamie and gets called James now and again, but usually Fin.

If their name doesn't suit them, they get it changed. Have only ever resorted to this a couple of times and nothing terrible has happened!

our pony came to us as nutmeg but we had a nutmeg previous who was a nut..we call her meg or moose..the horse was called hannibal wich is also on his passport, but previous owners didnt like that so called him otto which is what we call him

My first ever horse was called Bunty. And I hated it and changed it to Heidi. She was killed 10 weeks later by a car with me riding her. So after that I swore I would never change a horses name. I didn't like Margos name when I got her but got used to it and it suited her. Kizzy the same and Tartan ditto. Calli is just a shorted version of her showname Calanthe. But must admit I don't really like it, it doesn't suit her and she doesn't even know it when you shout her. I thought she was called Calise when I first rang up about her and would have prefered that but she does actually get called alsorts. Usually ratbag at the moment!!!

Almost all of mine are registered horses and I have taken their stable names from a part within their registered names ie. Doc Eyed Oscar is just Oscar, Jets Coul Moon is just Jet, Miss Golden Doc O'Lena is just Golden.....etc

The only two I didn't take a name from is Impressed by Plaudit.....known to us as Spotty Horse; and Watchadoin Deck is Red.

I am totally useless at thinking up names so it's really handy with these APHA's and AQHA's as they usually have at least a couple of names which can be used.

I've had a few named already which I've kept. The worst of which was Bikini

Of the 2 I have at the moment- Quinn was so named as I bought him in Ireland from Michael Quinn. ( they called him the chestnut horse!) I called him Quarrybank as that was the name of my Dad's school.
Spider was called Spider & his registered name is Boy Talk. Not what I would have chosen but I don't dislike it so it'll stay.

My horse was at a riding school, I was there the day he arrived and I was going to look after him, I went home thinking he was going to be called Harry, but got there the next day to find he was LAD why? that's a dogs name. As soon as I bought him I changed his name to Ben, he answers whatever I shout anyway! Daughter's pony was called Cheeky Boy and he definitely is, but for his stable name she chose Rolo.

My TB came named, But he got his name as he doesn't have a registered name. He was never raced or trained so his wetherbys pasport remains unnamed. When he arrived at the yard I got him from they called him "horse with no name" then they called him Joe....which has stuck and rather suits him. He's still unnamed on his pasport though.

mine still hasnt got a registerd name, and he's 8 too. His passport now states his BSJA name (D'Artagnan, which i came up with cause its associated with muskateers which seem familiar to cavaliers-his daddy!) but all he has as ID is a foal number

I still think its odd he was never named, he's by Cavalier out of a sucessful P2P mare...perhaps its a sign the breeder didnt think he was worth it

1st pony, chestnut mare, didn't have a name when I got her and I called her Martini, or Tini for short and Martini Rosso as a show name (well, she was red! and I was an alcoholic teenager obviously!!!)

When I bred the ginger one, called her Asti (Asti Martini as a connection) but show name is Aston Perdita meaning the "lost one of Aston" in honour of a friend that died when I was at Aston Uni. She gets called Ginger more than anything, or Nasti, or Nasturshalum (What Winnie the pooh calls Nasturtiums) oh and she went through a phase of being called Captain Orange and Ginger Spite (instead of spice).

Byter came as Biter (We nicknamed all the foals, so had a snotty, scruffy, ratty, Tyson who used to rear and box at you. etc etc and she nibbled so got "biter") sister won't change names so we changed the spelling to BYter and show name is Byttersweet Surprise (sire is wonderful surprise). She gets called the brown baby or Nitty!

Ivy is Ivory House Starlight Express, was meant to be Ivy House after the name of the farm where her Dad is, but its already a welsh prefix. Ivy is her stable name, though she gets Spotty or Potty, spawn of satan, that cream fluffy thing, "you evil little sh$t2" etc etc and the latest is the abominable snowpony...

Ty came as Thai (I'm not joking) so he's now Ty, or Tyrone when he's being naughty.
