Digital thermometer that actually works?

Every one I buy seems to say we’re all suffering with hypothermia! Admittedly, a couple have been cheap eBay ones but another was from a good animal pharmacy and this latest one is a Boots one as per recommendation from the vet!

My Boots one has handled 2 yard moves and being on strangles watch so has done it's job. What are you doing to them??!!!

That’s just it! Nothing! From coming out of the packet, they seem to read below the norm- even when tested on me and OH! Maybe we’re just all cold customers here!

Another vote for boots! I have heard you can get the infa-red laser style for animals now but not sure how accurate they are.

My boots one reads low, too, but the probe isn't really designed for horse rectums. Mine reads 37 for Henry, so I simply use that as a benchmark.

I had exactly the same with my Boots one. And then after about 2 days use it started to error and refused to do anything.
I'll follow this thread with interest.

So, erm, how did you test your veterinary thermometers on yourself and your OH?

It’s a human one from Boots. They’re all the same. I tested it under my tongue and then under my arm (before it went anywhere near the horses’ backsides I add!) Both readings were 36.8ish for me so not too low but only 35ish for OH so he is almost officially dead!
Both horses were 36.7!
