why do some people make other peoples life hard.. we have someone who refuses to shut gates, despite being rules of owner. also seems to think everyone is happy with their mess etc. school full of jumps etc. so annoying, have spoke to her numerous times re gate but getting no where. advice please

If I was the owner, I'd start a system of fines, maybe preceded by a yard meeting to explain that it is in the interests of safety for horses and owners. £1 every time anyone leaves the gate open, doesn't put jumps away etc etc etc. Hitting people in the pocket, where it hurts, always gets more respect than appealing to someone's sense of decency and fair play. People like that often don't have any anyway! Those liveries that carefully follow the rules will have nothing to worry about. The one who does all the damage can leave if they don't like it and then the yard would be happy again.

When a person comes to a yard they come knowing that there are certain rules that need to be followed. Why should others be forced to clean up after another lazy livery. When one livery constantly fails to go by the rules your yard owner needs to speak to the person & warn them as to their behavior. After a couple of warnings, if they continue, they they need to be asked to move on.

There are enough people out there with horses who will be only too willing to move to a nicely run yard so the vacancy would not be there for long.

The owner is the problem on our yard, or at least by his actions and inactions creates the problems. It's a very good yard in many respects but it could be excellent. There's no Rule Book and no-one has a Contract so everything is understood - but differently by each person. This produces lots of niggles and whispering in corners.

Love the place, but some things are so frustrating!

I completely sympathise! Currently having similar issues where I am...horses are all living out yet only two of us bother with poo picking the field/ filling up water/ etc etc (I could go on). I'm not sure how big your yard is but I tried to speak directly to the woman who is pretty much is charge- Like you we have no contract or anything. She mentioned to the others and things improved for...about a week! now i'm back to the same problem... I dont really have the solutions i'm afraid- I wish I did. I think the fine is a good idea but I could imagine that'd be difficult to enforce in a yard like mine. I am feeling like it may be time for me to move on...I hope you manage to get your situation resolved!
