Do any of you live far away from where you're horses are kept?

30-40 mins. I hate the distance but like pretty much everything else about the yard, so I stick with it. She's on full-ish, so I don't have to go up every day, which helps.

I was the same because living in London yards with turnout are further out but I was on part livery so I didn't have to every day and quite a few londoners on the yard.

When eventually I get another pony I will be back on the yard. I did actually think about moving closer to the yard as now we are hybrid working we only need to do 2 days a week in the office.

1-2hr commute depending on if the buses are running. Why do you ask?

Recently, I stayed at my daughter's for a week looking after her animals, that was 18 miles/35-40 min drive from yard- two visits daily 72 miles in total. I was able to work from home, but if I was to go to office that's another 35 miles from the yard, am not sure I'd have been able to sustain it in the long term on DIY, but it was do-able. If I had to, I would.

25 mins on part. But it's pretty much the closest place! (Living up a mountain has its drawbacks.) I'll be a lot further away if she ever closes.

50- 60 minutes and 22 miles each way. He's was ill and I knew he'd be looked after. He's been there nearly two years so it's now his home. I'd be too frightened to move him given some of the experiences I've had on livery over the years. I go every other day and try to switch off from the distance while I'm driving.

Mine were 5 mins away, then I moved and that meant they were 25 mins away, but were on the way to work. Was a bit of a pain on a non school day, but worth it having temporarily moved them closer leading to a nightmare yard situation.
Lucky enough to have them 10 seconds away from bed now 🤣.

I've been 35-45 minutes from home (but 10 minutes from work) in the past. As it was close to work and I was on Assisted DIY, it didn't seem so bad most of the timr especially as it was only visit per day at weekends. There were some weekend days it wasn't worth going home for - if I'd had a lesson in the mid morning but farrier in the afternoon which it made it feel a long day in the winter, but most of the time it was do-able.

Mine have never been more than 20 mins, closer to 10.

If you need to go twice a day and they're further away I'd imagine it's very difficult if you have a job or kids. If they're part livery and you ride 4 days a week not so bad.

I'm trying to decide what to do when my oldie goes (could be many years yet). My yard is fab with loads of turnout but no hacking so anytime I want a decent ride I have to load up and box out, prob adds best part of 2 hours to any ride. Wondering whether I'd be better off keeping the riding horse further away but then she'd need to be on part livery and I wouldn't be able to go every day but would actually be able to ride when I do.

Decisions.

Yes we end up staying there for hours most days!

Mine have always been at least 15 minutes away avs and my current mare is 25 minutes away from home. I used to do part-livery but I now do full and see her every other day. The yard is lovely and has great hacking, so I would not want to move her.

4 miles and 7 minute drive if the traffic lights are green and it’s not rush hour. I have had my horse even closer to home but the hacking is better where I am now.

Mine used to be a 50 minute drive away, on assisted grass livery so I didn't need to go each day. I still hated it, it took such a chunk out of my day. He's now 10 mins drive away or a 30 minute bike ride which is so much better.

Ours are a 30 min drive but the yard is so perfect we don't mind. They have huge lovely turnout. Hacking is amazing and so so safe in the forest. Free xc schooling. Exceptionally lovely people who check on my 3 horses everyday. We do go everyday but only once a day as they love living out. We have stables too for if we ever need . We just love it and so many people are surprised about the 30 minute journey but it is honestly worth it. Xx

Mines a 7 minute drive from my front door to arrival at the yard. I’d never travel more than 20 minutes away just because I’m on DIY and would want to be there quick if an emergency ever happened.
