I have found all of the horse magazines, including Horse and Hound, that all of the articles, hints and tips, are all about riding. What about us who dont ride? I am not particularly interested in getting to the jump on the right stride, I need to know more about how to do an in hand show! All these magazines seem to cater for the rider, what about us non riders with horses?

So so true! Even if you are a rider, there are so very many other aspects to handling and careing for a horse that it is strange that no attention is paid to that. Groundwork, non-ridden exercises (longlining, loose schooling etc), individual shows, show turnout. I am a rider, but I would love more non-ridden education, even things like driving which I would never wind up doing, I would still be really interested to learn more about it!

I ride every day but love in-hand work, having watched demos with Arthur Kottas recently about teaching lateral work in hand I have found this so helpful with my ridden work I would love to see more about it.
I also agree about the non-riding folk, more than half the horsey people I know have horses and ride very rarely for one reason or another and love to still engage and be involved with them 'in hand' whether that be showing, parelli or whatever.
Perhaps if more people made mention it would be taken on board?

Totally agree - am in the same boat as you! If it was in magazines ect more people wouldn't look at me like I'm crazy when I say I have horses but don't ride!!

Hmmm, I feel a comment emailed to all of these mags might be worthwhile! I am going to ask for more on in hand showing, and lunging. Anything else anyone wants me to ask about?

Maybe someone with initiative and drive needs to take this on board. Might be a winner.. a magazine for those who in-hand show, do groundwork and also maybe those who do horse agility.

I absolutely agree!
I dont ride, but have 3 ponies, and work as a dressage groom. I occasionally sit on a friends horse or my boss's, but Im much much happier on the ground!
My young mare is (eventually) going to be my driving mare - all those who want to learn more about driving, have a look at Carriage Driving Magazine, its a bit like H&H for driving folk! - my older mare is retired and my filly is 8months old.

I, for one, would love more articles about keeping show horses out 24/7 (I show from the field and have done for a while now) more about in hand endurance type events and more about general care of horses.
Daft things like the best hoofpick, the best bedding for shelters, all that sort of thing.
Go for it Benson, give em hell! xx

I agree, I currently have 2 youngsters and a shettie and I would love to be able to open a magazine and see advice on things like introducing long reining to a young horse, the advice is to long line before you lunge but when I have seen articles on it they always assume the horse already lounges. Also inland showing tips etc
