Ive grown used to the idea that my boy will always be a nutter shying at any stupid little thing, but I was wondering if horses actually have eyesight problems like humans, ie. like short and long sighted vision and just general poor eyesight?

Maybe that's his problem, does anyone have a horse with poor eyesight?

Brilliant picture! :D

I've been wondering this about my 20 year old welsh sec D. He seems to spot things on the road especially late and I was wondering whether maybe his eyesight is going. How do you do an eye test on a horse? They can't read!!!

Love the blinkers!

There was 2 ponies on my livery yard that had sight problems, both late teens/early 20's. One had cataracts and the other had been a first pony lead-rein type and had started having behavioural issues ( reared over backwards ) upon examination by vet was found to be going blind. He had some time in the field then was re-examined and as his behaviour was getting worse and his sight had deteriorated further and so he was pts.

Interesting post.
I firmly believe without any doubt that horses like all other living mammals can and do suffer deteration in their eyesight as they age.Why not ,they are flesh and blood same as us.They just learn to adapt better .

Cuppatea, love the picture, good chuckle for the start of the day.
Dont know about glasses for horses but my dog should have a pair with the amount of things she bangs her head on.

I remember watching Hickstead one year and one of Ellen Whittakers' horse had contact lenses to help him - don't know what condition he had though...not much help but at least they make contact lenses for horses now.

I think my boy doesn't have the greatest eyesight - it's something about the way he has to cock his head to look at certain things - but only does that on one side.
