My OH is a big geek, in that he loves computer games and spends lots of time on the xbox, and he loves comics, despite being in his 20s. This has only got worse over the last 4 years we have been together. I rarely say that he is a geek though.

On the other hand, he thinks being involved in horses is massively geeky, and that coming on here is sad. Which is nice...

I also get the feeling that my housemate thinks i am a bit sad for coming on here.

So, do your OH's and friends think that horses are geeky? Or that HHO is? And what do you say to them? :p

It doesn't really bother me, but i am interested if it's a popular conception, or just my ignorant OH :p

I get the impression from most men that they think we are massive pervs that like riding

Friends think i'm sad for coming on here, i was telling my friend in spain that another HHO member lives in Spain, she was like, "Horse and hound Forum, you do make me laugh" :o I thought i was cool :D
Edited mistake :)

I don't know anyone who thinks being involved with horses is geeky.. most people that I speak to are actually a bit scared or nervous of horses, due to having a bad experience with them, or sometimes for no reason at all other than their size. I think most people think horsey people are a bit nuts for spending so much time and money on them, plus being able to recall all the various times you've fallen off bit still getting back on to ride!

My boyfriend helps me out occasionally with mine and he's good with them, his only fear is being kicked by one of them because of how powerful their backsides are-which I've never really worried about with either of them to be honest.

He does think that this forum is a bit geeky, but I don't really care-its no worse than him playing on his xbox for hours on end. Its all social media, same as being on facebook really, so I think its losing its geeky edge.

I think a lot of people think I'm mad coming on here but they don't really understand what it's about so they thinks it's quite geeky.

I come on here as I feel it is like a little community, I love being surrounded by people who have horses in common, I love how everyone comes together in a crisis and is there to support others when they have a sad loss, it really is nice to be surrounded by such nice people.

It's a great place to be so I don't care what anyone else thinks :)

When i had my Gelding if for some reason i couldn't get down to farm illness or out after work etc etc - my OH would go down and do all my jobs for me (and to a satisfactory standard)! :)

He loved it, stress buster he said and he understood why we were so addicted, he started having lessons on my boy as well, so that i could have a sat morning lie in.

so he must have turned into a geek too :)

I don't think horses are for geeks, same as the person who spends an hour or so on their xbox of an evening isn't a geek. However, those horse people who insist on saying they are their horses "mummy" (for example), and people who spend all weekend playing on computer games are both geeks.

However, I would draw the line at comics. They're for small children, not grown men and its definately more geeky to collect comics than to post on a forum!

God i hate this new post system, took me ages to find this again!

I can sort of understand people who don't have horses thinking that coming on a horse forum is geeky... but i like how much info i can get off here, how much i learn that i didn't know and how lovely everyone is.

But i'm not one of those people who says 'my baby' or anything about the horses, so i don't see how i'm being 'geeky' whenever i talk about them. I am hoping i can convert him over time. He says he 'hates' horses but he's scared stiff of them. Maybe him saying it's geeky is just because he doesn't understand. It's not like i have My Little Ponys or anything lol

it's definately not classed as geeky however i am at the moment untill the holidays a bit of a geek, its get up do taz man in the mornin go to college for 8 and a half hours come home finish taz and ride, back home shower, more studying sleep and the same every single day apart for the weekends when i work a saturday then try to spend as much time on the yard on a sunday :)

Actually judging by the Equines at Uni, Horses are actually for the chavs and porn stars of this world. :D
