Hello all!

I'm having trouble again with an old lower back injury. Unfortunuately the only thing that causes it to flare up is horse riding. As soon as I do anything where I have to use my seat properly I find myself in a lot of pain the next day and it takes weeks to fix. I feel as if it's all 'impact' related and maybe if I had some sort of shock absorber I wouldn't get the problem as much.
Does anyone use any sort od seat saver for this kind of thing?
Do they really work?

Don't want to go and buy one if they are just for comfort, need somthing for a bit of suspension lol!!

Thanks x

I have a sheepskin one which I think helps a bit.

I used to have a Flair saddle (admittedly I don't think my back was a damaged as it used to be so its impossible to compare exactly), and I found this fantastic for my back. Unfortunately it didn't do the horse any favors. If that's an option, I'd definitely say Flair was great for my back.

I have a Heather Moffat one which I can't do with out although it might be psycological! (sp?) I also use Sprenger stirrup irons which help absorb concussion as well and have relatively little trouble with my back at the moment....Good luck!

My memory foam one helps with my coccyx, i fractured my bum about 2 years ago and can still hurt. Not quite back, but im sure it would help a bit.

Ditto this :D

Bad back from too many years of riding loopy horses (when much, much younger!).

Hoping the combination is going to help when I get back on tomorrow after six months off :)

I fractured my lumbar spine last May and have just got back to riding. I'm finding riding is helping my back as it builds up core strength and balance and that is what you need to do. I don't have a seat saver but I have invested in a good saddle, a Farrington. It is very comfortable and worth every penny.

No it won't help your back at all as they are designed to protect your bottom from getting too sore! :D What you need is a good back support. I suffer from a bad back and would never ride without one. There are some very good ones about such as the sportac or the prolite ones. They really do work.

ok the heather moffet one, do you think you get a better twist with the hip saver or the seat bone saver, i am looking into one which lifts me a bit in the saddle as the saddle twist is to wide for my hips

cheers and low fat nice tasting chocs to all replies

Hi there. I have a Le Mieux seat saver, which is transparent gel which attaches to the saddle through straps. It is really good and sticks you to the saddle like gel, and it is meant to absorb impact through your lumbar spine. They were reduced from £40 to £20 at the Equine Event so I bought one. They are fantastic. Really worthwhile as I have a large prolapsed disc and riding can be very painful particuarly as my horse is very bouncy, especially when jumping. I've had a look on the internet for it but can't find it so I'd ring Le Mieux directly and ask them.
