If they will EVER look clean or white again?!!

Because omg my spotty yearling just couldnt be more disgusting at the moment. You can hardly see her spots through all the mud, grime and poo stains. I brush her, to no avail, but wont wash her cos whats the point!

I honestly dont think she will ever be white again! I left her out without her rug on so hopefully the rain might clean her a bit!!

Do other people have this? I hope so!

Erm, no, I laugh at mine

She's out 24/7 without a rug at the mo and is looking very pleased with herself each day when I get there and she comes to show me how head to toe in mud she is!

all the time, my coloured mare behaves like a hippo in the field and comes in looking more bay than skewbald. Shes a coblet so doesn't need much rugging unfortunately.......i spent most of the weekend with mud up my nose trying to make her look decent enough to be seen out hacking. I prefer it when the temp drops and shes able to wear her rug.... i m fed up with naked turnout

People at my yard think I'm daft for putting my grey out without a rug. She wears one most days but we've had a couple of lovely days last week so she went out naked. They think I'm stupid but why put her out in a rug when she will overheat just for the sake of keeping her clean.

But yes, she is black most of the time and I don't think it will ever come out without washing, but I agree - what's the point! And it's so cold at the moment I'd feel cruel washing her.

Yep, my coblet likes to trick me by leaving one side kinda clean, then turns to show me that he is completely caked on the other!!

I dread the task of getting him white for his first show! Body ain't so bad after a brush, but by golly, those feathers, tail and mane are going to be a complete mission!! Why did I buy a horse that is half white

Luckily Stinky is not as bad as some - though he has just been taken from roughed off yak to traditional show cob again.

In winter, I oil up and grin and bear it and wash out when showing and accept that white hairy legs and clay don't look good together.

Now I am so lucky that the section C my niece rides is black - he paints himself nose to tail in mud - a true mud monster.

I look at my grey daily and wish he was bay

I'm somehow attracted to greys when I look for a horse to buy though so have had more greys than any other colour! Problem is that I keep mine out 24/7, compete and hate washing them... You should have seen us at the last BSJA comp last weekend - he could have easily passed off as a bay actually!! But I refuse to wash my horse all the time in freezing water for an event in the winter. That's just cruel!

My bay is actually the one who it drives me mad trying to keep her clean!

If I had a grey I think I would have to invent an all in one turnout rug the covers from the tips of their ears to the bottom of there hooves

I point blank refused to look at greys when I was buying for just this reason. I had one as a child...and to have one again it would have to be a complete superstar now!

Glad im not the only one!
Altho mud does factor in the filthyness the majority is [****] lol

At least im not alone!

In hindsight I wouldn't have another!

I am wondering when someone will invent hair dye for horses! I could just fill in the white bits and have myself a lovely black cob!! ooo or do them red !

LOL! It's so funny that you don't do mares, and don't do greys, and I skip an ad as soon as I see "bay gelding"

I don't have a grey but.... have a haffy with long thick blonde mane! well spose to be blonde but this time of year like to go for the mud dreadlocks look i think!!

There's me thinking the new grey this year is brown!!
crazy.gif

How I wish he was bay, I hot ragged him the other day and he was sparkley white but the next day, just brown again. It's soul destroying but he's so lovely.

I would rug him up more but not only is he grey, not only does he like rolling but he also likes to bite his rug

Completely doomed

Another mud monster. Mine is fully clipped (except that I left his legs on) and rugged - I keep up the washing of the tail though as otherwise it seems to take forever to get rid of the yellow staining. I also wash his face off as well - but he is stabled and will be carrying on competing this winter. I am trying to find a really good waterproof hood for him to go out in now as well. I also invested in thermatex leg wraps and neck/head covers to compensate for washing him but only wash his legs off properly if we are competing - and then compensate for that with cow udder cream. Never had this problem with my bays but with my very dark brown horse, the issue is that, unless he was scrubbed regualarly he would look dusty!. Last year I took the legs off with the last clip and will the same again this time, although I keep his heels clipped all year round. I do use warm water though when washing off his bits and towel but he is a lot more work than my others were - but then again, he does look lovely when going out and about!

No, because I don't have mud
grin.gif

On the other hand, I have a palomino that appears to be trying his hardest to turn brown, he doesn't have mud either, what he does have is a very peaty patch that he digs up and wallows in.

I have a grey with a long mane and tail and he is a mud lark. He often comes in looking like he has been backcombed and then trowelled with mud. He grins at me.

I love seeing a clean grey, but I like seeing a happy horse more so. Its just as well I like to spend hours grooming him (when I dont have whiplash).

God grey ponios will be the death of me!!

I have just sold one..... and bought ANOTHER!! why did I buy another grey? lol hehe

She is gorgeous though so I will have to put up with another grey!

I have to say my skewbald isnt that bad! Apart from some stable stains and mud on her legs at this time of year, her white patches stay brightly white. The grey owners on my yard get a little jealous sometimes. I think the pink skin makes a difference to how white she is. I also put oil in her feed for a nice shiny coat too.

Why oh why oh why have I ended up with two greys and a skewbald! I refuse to compete through the winter (I'm just too soft to bath them when it's freezing cold) so they will just get the occasional brush off on dry days and re-emerge in their true colours sometime next spring!

Another disgruntled grey owner here!

My pale dapple grey's been wearing a lightweight for a couple of weeks, and her body had that lovely shimmer effect (but her neck's stained a fetching shade of yellowish beige).

So there was me all pleased when I got to the stable on Monday morning following her first night in, because she'd only dropped one pile. Then she turned round and I realised she'd slept on it.
