Does the taxman know? They tend to be pretty prompt when there's undeclared earnings being made

Some kind person reported me!

I was ordered to report to the local tax office with all my receipts, books etc.

Now, I am not the most organised book keeper but I am embarrassingly honest. My computer records are impeccable, not so my filing system.

The tax inspector who interviewed me was a gold retriever breeder so we were on the same wave length from square one. We actually got on extremely well and had a good chat about dogs. I came away with a clean slate.

Then she handed back my egg box of receipts. I had warned her that the receipts are filed on the archaeological system. She hadn't heard of that, so I explained. "You do not disturb the layers in consideration of future generations".

All my receipts came back sorted in chronological order and neatly clipped together. They were handed over with an instructional manual on filing and with the comment, "We won't be investigating YOU again!".. I felt quite guilty for all of ten minutes. Which reminds me, I really must get another egg box....
