does the horse riding community believe that trail hunts routinely break the law and hunt foxes whilst saying they are trail hunting?

You have started a couple of very strange threads for a brand new poster.

I'm now suspecting that your first one about red coats might have been a warm up for this one which is pretty much guaranteed to start a barney.

Either that or that your user name is relevant and you are in fact a chatbot set loose to train itself on the forum.

For an answer to your question, read this thread. 200 pages, shouldn't take you long 😁

Of course they do and I have that on good authority from someone that does.

I've never been hunting as I personally don't agree with it but common sense tells me that it's near impossible to control a pack of hounds hell bent on catching a fox once they have the scent.

It's easy and drag packs do it all the time.

This thread explains it all

no need to be quite so patronising. the red coat questions cleared up an area of ignorance for me in my efforts to find out more abt hunting. will see how i get on reading the thread

It does help if you introduce yourself as requested on joining to form, on the Introductions thread.

Trail hunts hunting fox is an extremely contentious subject, which you'll understand after reading the thread I pointed to. You will have to forgive me for seeming unwelcoming, when you make that almost your first question on the forum.

Utter rubbish - of course you can call a pack of hounds off a scent, they are very skilled houndsmen and very well trained dogs.
I wouldn't say with certainty it doesn't ever happen, but I doubt it's ever intentional.. even the most notorious pack has been forced to clean their boots so to speak.
In days gone by but not now.

ycbm - what do you think - is trail hunting routinely used as a cover for fox hunting or is it all sab propaganda?

I don't believe a real live person could have asked this question after how the thread has gone so far unless they were looking for a fight. I think you're probably a bot.

But just in case, you'll find my views along with a lot of others on this thread. I suggest you read it this time.

looking for a fight? that sounds very defensive and quite incorrect. i'm looking for information. you obviously know sth abt bots that i dont. i thought they were automated, not able to respond creatively. or are you just trying to demean me?

drag hunting is not the same as trail hunting. drag hunts dont kill foxes, trail hunts do according to sab reports

I don't know why you are telling me this, I know it and if you read the damned thread I've pointed you to over and over, you'll find everybody knows it. My point was to correct an assumption made by Birker and nothing to do with you. Drag hounds are fox hounds, they often latch on to fox scent and are called off.

Now please read this thread before asking more questions that have already been answered many times over on the forum.

not entirely sure how I was being patronising, mine was a genuine, and i think justified, question

The thread YCBM has pointed out really is worth reading if you want an answer to how people on here answer your original question. It is more nuanced than 'yes' or 'no' (for a start not all hunts behave the same), which is why that thread is worth a read; the issue has been debated there at length.

If you read the thread and want to contribute to the discussion or have a question that it hasn't answered then if you post on that thread you should get relevant and informative replies.

These days they can hold a more intelligent conversion than a lot of people

Of course it still happens and anyone who thinks anything else is either deluded or very naive.

And about 100 other links I could add

Well they did to start with, but by this time I hope they don't. If a fox jumps up under their nose then they would kill it no doubt, but there has to be "intent" doesn't there. Hopefully the hunts have learnt their lesson from recent cases. There was an article not long ago in H & H from the head man of hunting about making sure that everyone does comply with the law.

My little terrier killed a hare last summer, it wasn't intentional, if it had run away it would have escaped but my dog smelt it and pounced and it was dead before I realised what was happening. Does that make me guilty of hunting? I hope not.

I think if a fox damages your property you can flush it out with one dog only and only have a max of two dogs to kill it but I think I read it has to be on your own land.

What else would you expect him to say in writing? Let's not start this all over again, there are hundreds of pages on it already on the forum.

Please read this thread from the end backwards and you will see just how current the problems still are.
