Do you buy your horse a christmas present?

Of course! And most of 'my' so-called Christmas presents are for the horse, so he gets shedloads. He needs a new saddle, guess what I'll be getting for Christmas?!

His presents will be a sack of carrots, a new salt lick and maybe a personalised Thermatex... depends how generous Santa is feeling! :)

taz always gets presents for christmas but then he's like a spoilt child, i cant seem to go into a horsey shop, apart from the one i work in, and buy something for him, he got two new rugs at the begining of the week to keep him warm so thats his early xmas present, he will get carrots and turnips and if santa is nice to me this year hopefully he will get one of they equissage machines :D

Its my first "proper" christmas with Oscar so he has been spoilt rotten!! He has an advent calender, and 2 stockings already as well as an entire new wardrobe in the last 2 months!!!

Any excuse to spoil him!!! :)

Yep :D

He gets a horse treat advent calendar (before Christmas obviously!) and this year as I am now back down to one and have only got Bailey he will be spoilt :D

He will have a stocking with some parsnips, carrots, apples and his special favourite - a pack of Tesco cola fizzy laces!!

I am going to Olympia (20 days and counting!) so I am also on the look out for a bridle for him as he is now long reining and lunging.

I may also get him some boots for working in...or possibly pink glittery bandages...just because I realllllllllllllly want them, they'd look silly on me ... and well because I just can!! :D

I am on the look out for some red and some green glittery hoof oil too - want him to look festive for the Christmas!!!

No as i don't believe he understands the meaning of xmas and he gets all the things he needs and likes when he wants.

I also read with food type treats horses can get ill at xmas if people give them too many treats when they are not used to having them.

I would be very much surprised if any horse understood Christmas was different to any other day of the year!! It is very much my enthusiasm for it which means he gets Christmas presents, and if he happens to need something around the same time as Christmas, I use it as his present. Otherwise, at other times of the year it is bought as and when required. I suspect this is the case for most of the people who have posted above.

I do use Christmas as an excuse to get somethings he doesn't need (like coloured glitter hoof oil!). Re the food point, it is all things he has had before and in very small quantities. Come January, there is no bad habit asking for a treat etc. Obvicously if people stuff new foods down their horses necks in silly quantities there may be an issue but as long as everyone is sensible about it, I don't see the harm :)

Interesting to see from another's point of view though :)

My neds will get what they always do, though they might get a carrot, even LL (laminitic, never gets treats with sugar in).

Neds have all they need and more, so I'll give 'their present money' to the BHS and the WHW in the form of donations.

Every day is Christmas day for my horse as far as I'm concerned so he doesn't usually get anything extra as he has everything he needs (or wants) when he needs it. As I buy everything myself I don't have to wait for Xmas to get it.

I don't get my horses anything for christmas- they're horses, they don't know what christmas is! They just get their usual feed, maybe with a few carrots/polos.

Yes the pony is getting a likit from mum and his heavy weight turn out. He is also getting a new headcollar as he has broken the throat clip on his, he will also get some carrots for tea because he dosent normally get anything apart from hay. As someone said above he wont understand the meaning of christmas but that dosent mean he cant be treated, most of the things he is getting he needs any way apart from the lickit so they are just being called christmas pressies and he is already wearing his rug

Only got my boys this year but I always buy the cats and dogs a present not sure what to get Echo and Archie - would sort of things do you buy?
I buy them bugger all! They are already lucky that they dont find their name on the butchers list!!!! On xmas day they might not have a fork up the arse to make em 'move over!' Sorry., I am so sick of trying to juggle horses, xmas dinner ets when the oven wont reach its promised temp='almost raw goose' and the bloody waterers frozen and horses that decide to be colicy. I would love to 'recieve' a pressi from my liveries= a week in a health farm. Bugger being a YO!

Grinch !!

Mine get a bottle of guinness in their evening feed. Some old horsey person told me about this years ago. Dont know what its supposed to do but they love it

Not really - but will probably get an extra carrott at turnout and a bigger hug. They don't really know any different and I don't have the spare cash...

Lacey will be getting sugar lumps, carrots, apples, apple juice and maybe some guinness.

It's brithday presents that I go OTT with, she has a banner, a gift bag full of treats (one that was a schooling whip, she loved that!) and her cards from her friends pinned to her stable door!

Several years ago I was walking home from the pub on Xmas Eve with some friends (was rather full of Xmas Spirit!) and decided Heidi needed an Xmas pressie so stopped at the all night garage and asked for 48 packets of polos! As it was only the little kiosk bit that was open the poor man working there had to go and get them and count them out as I was quite insistent that I must have the full 48 packets!

I should add that Heidi didn't get them all and they lasted the the whole yard pretty much all the following year, and I didn't go back to the garage for most of the following year!

No way do mine get presents!

They have enough money spent on them 365days/year without anything special at christmas.

and mine never get treats or sweets as it is a pet hate of mine and makes horses pushy (mine are youngsters and don't need to learn bad manners!)
